Engineering Test Technician (Mechanical) Req (Level T3) 

The Collins Aerospace – Fire Protection team is looking to hire an Engineering Test Technician (Mechanical) to join our design engineering project/test group to support development testing, qualification testing, customer field support related to our family of product lines that provide fire protection systems to our commercial aviation, military and commercial ground vehicle customers.  

This is an onsite position based in Wilson, North Carolina.

What you will do: 

  • Program chambers, test and troubleshoot of current products and development programs, hardware and software for aerospace products supported by the Engineering Test group. 
  • Data capture, documentation, implementation for DO-160 - MIL-STD-810 environmental type testing. 
  • Provide technical input for new or modifications to existing data acquisition systems and test. 
  • Execute test per the procedure or other requirements documents provided. 
  • Provide information to help develop plans, procedures and reports. 
  • Hands on experience in diverse areas including- basic electric wiring, mechanical and hydraulic test systems knowledge, pressure systems, fixture fabrication, data acquisition and instrumentation set up. 
  • Provide input for development and qualification test plans, procedures and reports. 
  • Demonstrates communication skills with the manager or test engineer, and be effective at expressing status, issues/concerns, and successes.  
  • Interface with customer, Systems Engineers and Program Managers to address compliance issues as needed. 
  • Order materials and equipment as needed to support planned tests. 
  • Ensure tests are properly set up and instrumented. 
  • Support Test engineers in their execution of similar activities 
  • Adhere to all Collins export, ethics and safety requirements 
  • Other tasks as assigned. 
  • Occasional overtime as needed. 

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires HS Diploma or AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
  • Being a U.S. Person is required because the job requires access to ITAR or 600/500-series EAR information or hardware (directly or indirectly) and the company will not seek an export authorization for this role.
  • General knowledge of hand tools and ability to use them. 
  • Ability and willingness to travel on short notice. 
  • Willingness to learn current test methods that utilize systems such as, pressure systems, test fixture fabrication, data acquisition and instrumentation set up. 

Qualifications we prefer: 

  • Experience in working with both engineering departments and aerospace manufacturing environments. 
  • Experience with National Instruments hardware and software, LabVIEW and Daisylabs, a strong plus. 
  • Previous mechanical testing experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrates ability/desire to work in a team environment, establish working relationships with peers and co-workers.  
  • A mechanically minded individual willing to work with hands.

The salary range for this role is 40,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
