Description -
Are you ready to take real technical ownership of a unique mechanical domain in cutting‑edge high‑technology products? Join HP Indigo R&D as a key mechanical owner in the development of next‑generation digital press platforms.
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to own the end‑to‑end technical scope of Frames, Covers, and Sheet‑Metal Structures across HP Indigo digital press platforms—from early concept and mechanical architecture definition through detailed design, validation, and production release.
This is a hands‑on senior role for a highly experienced mechanical engineer who combines deep mechanical design expertise with system‑level thinking. You will be responsible for critical design decisions, mechanical architecture, structural concepts, sheet‑metal solutions, interface management, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost trade‑offs, while ensuring alignment with industrial design intent.
While this is not a formal people management role, technical leadership capability is essential. You will act as a technical focal point in the domain, influence decisions across teams through expertise and ownership, mentor engineers, drive cross‑functional alignment, and help raise the overall engineering standard around you.
This role suits a long term technical leader who seeks broader domain ownership and increasing technical influence over time.
Key Responsibilities
Own the mechanical concept, detailed design, and release of frames, covers, sheet‑metal assemblies, and structural press elements.
Define mechanical architecture, load paths, joining strategies, assembly concepts, service access, and robust design intent.
Lead sheet‑metal design with strong understanding of forming limits, bending behavior, tolerance stack‑up, assembly sequence, fastening methods, and GD&T.
Translate industrial design intent into feasible mechanical solutions while balancing appearance, robustness, serviceability, manufacturability, and cost.
Drive structural design decisions including stiffness, deflection, vibration sensitivity, mounting strategy, and interface management with adjacent subsystems.
Design and specify castings and machined parts as required, using sound DFM principles, supplier and process awareness, and appropriate surface treatments.
Apply design to cost thinking throughout development, including BOM awareness, manufacturing alternatives, cost drivers, and documented trade‑offs between performance, cost, quality, and reliability.
Lead technical discussions, design reviews, supplier interactions, and cross‑functional alignment within the Frames & Covers domain.
Mentor engineers and continuously improve design quality, drawing quality, checklist usage, and engineering decision‑making standards.
Requirements
B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering.
7+ years of hands‑on mechanical design experience in complex, multi‑disciplinary R&D products.
Deep experience owning sheet‑metal structures, frames, covers in production‑oriented products.
Experience working with industrial design teams and translating visual / product design intent into mechanical solutions.
Demonstrated technical leader material: Preferred Qualifications
Proven ability to take technical ownership from concept through production release.
Strong understanding of mechanical architecture, interfaces, assembly strategy, serviceability, tolerance behavior, and production release.
Solid experience with castings, machined parts, surface treatments, and manufacturing processes.
Strong CAD skills; Creo experience is an advantage.
Ability to create, review, and release high‑quality production drawings with strong GD&T and clear manufacturing intent.
Experience with structural analysis or simulation tools (vibration, stiffness, deflection).
Supplier and manufacturing exposure in sheet‑metal, machining, casting, coating, and assembly processes.
Strong design‑to‑cost mindset and understanding of BOM cost drivers.
