This role is part of Alcon's Engineering function, a team focused on improving quality, processes, products, packaging and materials across our business to help deliver brilliant outcomes. The Sr. Associate, Manufacturing Science & Technology Engineering (Material Engineering), is primarily responsible for leading research initiatives and optimizing project outcomes by developing and evaluating new production materials, equipment, and technologies. This role demands advanced technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and strict adherence to procedures.
In this role, a typical day will include:
- Identify and support materials for alternate source qualification in collaboration with Manufacturing, Planning, and Procurement—focusing on supply, quality, and inventory risks.
- Develop project plans and timelines for material testing, feasibility studies, and qualification activities, ensuring delivery within scope, resources, and budget.
- Support Supplier Change Notifications (SCN) related to material and component performance.
- Participate in supplier capability assessments and readiness evaluations.
- Generate protocols and reports for feasibility studies, engineering assessments, and material qualifications.
- Coordinate protocol execution and project activities with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
- Support timely closure of NCIs and CAPAs.
- Contribute to DI and HSE initiatives on site.
- Provide expert-level technical support, analysis, reports, and white papers as needed.
- Ensure immediate reporting of near misses or incidents in the workplace.
- Ensure all activities comply with cGMP, ISO 13485, Alcon Quality & Compliance standards, and HSE policies.
- Perform gap assessments and drive improvements in Quality, HSE, MDSAP, DI, GDP, SOPs, and 5S.
- Comply with Alcon Information Security, Corporate Citizenship Policies, and Code of Conduct.
- Lead the development, evaluation, and implementation of new materials, equipment, and technologies to support mass production.
- Conduct R&D activities that address production cost, quality, and efficiency challenges.
- Determine production capacity needs, develop manufacturing procedures, and improve processes to reduce costs.
- Establish product quality standards and collaborate with vendors on specifications.
- Work closely with partner functions such as R&D, Quality, and Commercial teams.
- Lead, guide, and monitor a team, ensuring tasks are executed effectively and aligned with project goals
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering (Material Engineering preferred).
- Strong English communication skills.
- Experience in supervising or coordinating teams.
- Proven hands-on experience managing and qualifying alternate material sources.
- Experience conducting engineering studies.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in manufacturing environment.
- Background in medical devices, pharmaceuticals, or FMCG is an advantage.
