Senior Manager/Manager, Cultural Placemaking (Heritage Policy and Research Division)

[What the role is]

The Heritage Policy and Research (HPR) Division of NHB will be working closely with Government agencies, cultural and community stakeholders, and local business communities to maintain and uplift the character and vibrancy of historic districts.

[What you will be working on]

We are looking for an officer to oversee work related to cultural placemaking in historic districts. The officer will:

  • Research and sensemake historic districts to inform understanding of the needs, opportunities, and challenges of community, cultural, and commercial stakeholders

  • Work with Government agencies to engage key stakeholders in each historic district to develop and strengthen relationships and partnerships

  • Identify strengths and capability gaps of partners and community stakeholders in relation to placemaking outcomes, and communicate the value proposition for them to participate in district initiatives

  • Develop and implement strategies to develop the placemaking capabilities of stakeholders   

  • Mobilise partners and community to co-create and co-deliver precinct plans, key programmes and events, including managing and administering resourcing where relevant

[What we are looking for]

  • Strong interdisciplinary thinking, able to deal with diverse policy issues including cultural and heritage sector development, place management, and heritage business sustainability

  • Preferably at least 3 years of relevant working experience, in the culture and heritage sector, place activation, and/or community engagement and development

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to interact with and manage diverse stakeholders and partners, including mediating conflicting interests

  • Demonstrated ability to engage external stakeholders for co-creation and mobilise partners towards shared outcomes

  • Efficient, organised, and highly motivated with the ability to multi-task and work well in a team

  • Proactive and independent worker who is comfortable stepping out of their comfort zone to learn new skills;

  • Experience in community work, and/or urban planning and management, will be advantageous

Successful candidates will be offered a 2-year contract in the first instance.
