Are you a valuation leader looking to apply your private markets expertise within one of Canada’s largest asset managers?
Based in Victoria, BC, the Senior Manager, Valuations is responsible for the execution of BCI’s private investment valuation processes across Private Equity, Infrastructure and Renewable Resources, and Private Credit. The role includes reviewing complex valuation work and supporting the development of junior team members.
Reporting to the Director, Valuations, this role is responsible for leading valuation processes and exercising sound judgment on fair value matters across assigned portfolios. The Senior Manager oversees external valuator relationships, prepares analysis and conclusions for the Valuation Committee and senior management, and contributes to valuation policy, governance, and continuous improvement, including the thoughtful use of technology and AI to enhance efficiency and controls.
Financial Reporting & Valuations is made up of two teams, Financial Reporting and Valuations who combined are responsible for the daily price verification for Fixed Income and Public Equity securities as well as the quarterly and year-end valuation processes for BCI’s private market investment portfolio, including Private Equity, Infrastructure & Renewable Resources, and Private Credit. The branch also resolves IFRS accounting and valuation issues across all asset classes, prepares annual financial statements for BCI programs, pooled funds, and Combined Funds, and reports and presents financial and valuation information to BCI’s Valuation Committee and Board and Board-related committees.
Professional accounting designation (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), and/or Chartered Business Valuator (CBV)
8–10 years of experience in private investment valuation, with progressively increasing responsibility
Demonstrated expertise in valuation methodologies for illiquid assets, including discounted cash flow, market multiples, and income approaches across infrastructure, private equity, private debt, and real assets
Deep knowledge of IFRS, with strong expertise in IFRS 13 (Fair Value Measurement) and standards relevant to investment company accounting
Strong understanding of private market investment structures, fund governance, and the role of valuation within an institutional investor’s financial reporting and risk management framework
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex valuation matters to senior management and committee audiences
Experience within an institutional investment management environment
Demonstrated ability to take on increasing scope and complexity, with the potential to develop broader functional leadership within a valuations function
Familiarity with technology enablement and AI tools in a valuation or finance context
Manages year-end and quarterly valuation processes for assigned portfolios, delivering outputs on schedule with complete documentation suitable for committee review and external audit
Reviews and challenges third-party valuation reports from external valuators on assigned portfolios to ensure methodological soundness, consistency with BCI’s valuation policies, and compliance with applicable accounting standards
Prepares valuation conclusions, executive summaries, and supporting analysis for the Valuation Committee and management, including clear articulation of key assumptions, sensitivities, and risks
Identifies valuation issues and control gaps early within assigned workstreams, drives timely remediation with stakeholders, and documents decisions to strengthen governance
Serves as subject matter expert on private market valuations, responding to inquiries from internal stakeholders, asset class teams, and auditors
Contributes to BCI's valuation policies, methodologies, and internal directives, monitoring regulatory and accounting developments to flag material implications and ensure alignment with IFRS and evolving market practice
Manages relationships with external valuators, including scoping, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring timely completion aligned with the Valuation Plan
Serves as day-to-day point of contact for external auditor queries, providing supporting documentation and escalating issues to the Director as appropriate
Champions technology and AI solutions within the valuations function, including automation of valuation workflows, IRR model roll-forwards, and private debt review processes
Partners with Finance and Technology teams to identify, evaluate, and implement tools that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and governance
Provides coaching, performance management, and onboarding support for direct reports within assigned workstreams
This role will be based in our office in downtown Victoria, BC. We are an in-person collaborative organization with the flexibility to work remotely 1 day a week.
The annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is CAD $124,000 to $155,000.

The base salary will consider factors such as the individual's skill set, experience, and internal equity. We aim for actual pay to be around the market median for expected performance and the upper quartile for excellent performance. Actual salaries may vary based on experience and expertise.
