Our core areas of expertise encompass Transport Infrastructure, Water, Defence infrastructure, and Energy and Resources. Our advisory team work across each of these sectors providing consultancy services for the full project lifecycle.

Overview

To deliver consulting assignment(s) as part of a wider team or individually.  Individuals at this level are expected to have a strong understanding and knowledge of client/sector issues and have significant specialist professional knowledge.  The role requires the person to take the lead on medium complexity projects, large workstreams or business development activity. Role holders are expected to be autonomous in working up and proposing a solution or project plan internally, gaining sign off and then implementing it once it has been signed off. Business development is a growing accountability and there is an expectation that role holders will identify opportunities to extend or enhance a project and work where relevant with the bid team on proposals which means they will contribute to winning work for themselves and for others. The seniority of this position expects the role holder will have foresight of needs across business development, project management and client expectations, and take initiative to ensure effective delivery.

Business Development

  • Shape the business development approach with Directors.
  • Mentor team members in BD activities.
  • Obtain approval for enquiry investment, proposals and contract acceptance on the basis of a balanced view of the technical & commercial proposition and company procedures.
  • Write proposals that effectively address project and commercial risks under any T&C’s using appropriate support from the commercial department.
  • Apply contract law, as related to our consulting business.
  • Set up project costing strategies for business benefit.
  • Advise others on commercial strategies for project risk reduction.
  • Take the initiative to identify how best to lead or proactively contribute to marketing campaigns.
  • Initiate and support business development activities in conjunction with Principal and other leaders.
  • Promote the activities and skills of the company in all activities undertaken.
  • Produce effective proposals.

Client Relationship Management

  • Perform commercial consultancy work across a broad range of the company’s core skills and supervise and risk assess the consultancy work of assigned project staff.
  • Ensure consultancy work performed by themselves or under their supervision is completed to the satisfaction of the client and the company management.
  • Act as escalation point for complex client issues
  • Lead strategic client engagement planning
  • Show an awareness of all services offered by the company.
  • Lead a united approach to the client experience that accounts for other team member interactions.
  • Significantly contribute to the enhancement of the company’s reputation.
  • Lead client meetings while including other team members appropriately.
  • Take responsibility for a client relationship on a project.

Project Management

  • Own project governance and risk management.
  • Implement project delivery frameworks.
  • Run all aspects of projects within their responsibility in accordance with the requirements of the company's Quality Management System.
  • Manage large workstreams or medium complexity projects, e.g. multi-disciplinary, or cross site or projects requiring many man months of effort.
  • Manage and successfully deliver a portfolio of projects.
  • Define the resourcing requirements on projects for which they are Project Manager to facilitate the planning of the company resources.
  • Perform audits of projects in accordance with company procedures when designated
  • Act as Project Supervisor in accordance with company procedures as requested.
  • Report on project aspects of all projects within their responsibilities to the Project Manager, Project Supervisor or Business Manager as appropriate. as a Project Auditor of a project.
  • Look ahead to plan and organise projects and tasks, taking into account the dependencies on and from others.

Solution Development

  • Drive innovation in solution design.
  • Lead solution differentiation initiatives.
  • Collaborate across all Consulting capability domains, practice groups and industry segments to contribute to Consulting commercial success, people development and positive culture
  • Interpret the technical requirements of clients and develop technical approaches and solutions to meet those requirements.
  • Review and approve reports.
  • Prepare estimates, tenders, budgets and documentation.
  • Develop solutions to business opportunities that have ambiguity and uncertainty.

Communication and Engagement

  • Develop stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Lead communication strategy for key projects.
  • Report on technical aspects of all projects within their responsibility to the Project Manager or Director concerned and to clients when required.
  • Compose and write well structured, clear, concise, lucid and relevant letters, reports and presentations.
  • Confidently represent the company and describe it’s capabilities orally and in written documents at a senior level.

Team management

  • Ensure that all project work carried out by themselves or under their supervision is performed in a manner consistent with achieving the project’s objectives.
  • Assist and direct other members of the project team as required.
  • Give specific direction to others as to how to complete well-defined tasks and monitor performance.
  • As required, process administrative tasks for team members including leave, job changes and approvals as per policy and procedure.
  • Step forward to lead as needed, regardless of position.

Team development

Key Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience in management consulting, strategy, or a related field.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and drive change.
  • Capability to manage clients and position the Practice Group for new business.
  • Well-regarded problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and competing priorities.
  • Relevant academic qualifications (e.g., Engineering, Economics, Science, Sustainability preferred).
