RBC

Senior Manager, Strategy & Business Management

TORONTO, Ontario, Canada Full time

Job Description

What is the opportunity?

Finance Shared Services (FSS) is RBC’s centralized finance operations engine, operating across five specialized service pillars. This is a newly created strategic role. Lead the strategic transformation and operational excellence agenda for FSS by driving cross-pillar initiatives, architecting business management frameworks, and translating complex operational challenges into actionable insights as a trusted strategic architect who transforms how a large-scale function operates.

What will you do?

You will take on a portfolio of strategic work that combines architecture and execution, operating with autonomy across three interconnected key drivers of value creation: strategic initiative leadership, comprehensive business management, and rapid-cycle issue resolution.

  • Architect and lead cross-FSS strategic initiatives from conception through execution, owning business cases, implementation roadmaps, and measurable outcomes that drive enterprise value.
  • Own annual business management activities—budget alignment, monthly FTE forecasting, annual department goal-setting, and performance reviews—ensuring strategic initiatives are resourced and organizational priorities drive accountability.
  • Identify and analyze issues of material impact; provide clear recommendations and executive-ready briefs to inform senior leadership decisions; manage rapid-cycle problem-solving on emerging business issues within tight timelines.
  • Translate regulatory and industry shifts into strategic imperatives; lead capability and operational readiness assessments that explore reasonable capability modernization opportunities to drive operational resilience, scalability, and efficiency gains.
  • Lead strategic alignment and change mobilization across FSS leadership and extended stakeholder networks; develop communication strategies and readiness roadmaps that drive organizational adoption of transformation priorities.
  • Orchestrate cross-FSS portfolio of strategic initiatives; establish governance frameworks, sequencing, and dependencies to drive aligned execution, manage trade-offs, and maximize enterprise value realization.
  • Build data-driven business cases for transformation; synthesize cross-pillar impact analysis, validate strategic assumptions against operational realities, and construct compelling financial narratives that guide leadership decisions on priority sequencing.
  • Serve as trusted strategic advisor to FSS leadership on operating model design, capability architecture, and resource optimization decisions; develop scenario analyses and strategic options that inform major organizational choices.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in management consulting, strategy, operations, or business management with demonstrated success leading end-to-end transformation programs or efficiency initiatives.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and analytical rigor; proven ability to move from complex data to clear, compelling narratives that influence senior leaders and drive action.
  • Mastery of financial modeling, business case development, and P&L analysis; deep fluency with budgeting frameworks, variance analysis, and forecasting methodologies.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization tools; ability to build executive-grade dashboards and translate quantitative insights into strategic recommendations.
  • Proven track record of managing cross-functional initiatives and complex programs to time and quality in ambiguous, matrix environments.
  • Rapid learner with ability to quickly master complex financial operations and operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
  • Autonomous thinker comfortable working independently on high-stakes initiatives while exercising sound judgment and managing competing stakeholder interests.
  • Strong executive communication skills (written and verbal); ability to distill complexity into clear, concise narratives for C-suite audiences.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with enterprise shared services models, centralized operations, or global delivery networks.
  • Background in financial services operations, shared services, or finance transformation initiatives; experience with enterprise finance systems, process automation, or digital transformation programs.
  • Experience building organizational capabilities and change management in large, hierarchical organizations.
  • MBA, CPA, CMA, or PMP preferred.
  • Track record of designing and implementing performance management frameworks, OKR systems, or operating models at scale.

  • Ability to make a difference and lasting impact
  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team
