Position Summary...

Senior Manager, Data Engineering at Walmart/VIZIO is responsible for leading data engineering initiatives that support the architecture and development of scalable, secure, and high-performance data systems. This strategic role involves guiding the design and implementation of data platforms and solutions while driving collaboration across engineering, product, and business teams. Your leadership will ensure that data systems are designed to support organizational goals and that they provide robust analytics capabilities to impact millions of users globally.

What You’ll Do:
  • Lead the technical strategy and architecture of data systems and platforms across multiple teams.
  • Design and implement scalable data platforms, pipelines, and ETL processes with a focus on performance, reliability, and security.
  • Conduct design reviews and make critical technical decisions to align data engineering efforts with business objectives.
  • Ensure systems are observable, resilient, and maintainable through effective CI/CD and automation practices.
  • Address scalability challenges, optimize performance, and mitigate technical risks in data systems.
  • Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to translate strategic goals into practical technical solutions.
  • Lead cross-team alignment on architecture, data dependencies, and project execution plans.
  • Promote best practices in data engineering, including data quality, monitoring, and DevOps maturity.
  • Mentor engineers, supporting technical growth and leadership development within the data engineering team.

What You’ll Bring:
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience:
  • 7-10 years in data engineering or software engineering, with significant experience at a senior level.
  • Proven track record in leading data engineering projects and teams through influence
  • Technical Skills
  • Strong expertise in relational SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • High proficiency in Python, PySpark, SQL, and/or Scala for data processing and analytics.
  • Experience designing and implementing ETL processes and data pipelines for analytics and operational use.
  • In-depth understanding of in-memory processing and data formats (e.g., Avro, Parquet, JSON).
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS: EC2, MSK, S3, RDS, SNS, SQS) and stream-processing systems (e.g., Storm, Kafka).
  • Knowledge of data pipeline and workflow management tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, AWS Data Pipeline).
  • Familiarity with big data tools (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Kafka).
  • Experience using software engineering tools and practices (e.g., GitHub, VSCode, CI/CD).
  • Experience in data observability and monitoring.
  • Hands-on experience with designing and maintaining data schema life-cycles.
  • Bonus: Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Thoughtspot.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication and leadership skills; ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences; analytical mindset with problem-solving capabilities for large-scale data engineering challenges.

The annual salary range for this position is $121,000.00 - $242,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :

Option 2: 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
