Job Title: Senior Manager, Software Engineering - Cloud Platform
Location: New York, NY; San Francisco, CA

About the Team

The Cloud Platform Engineering team builds and operates the highly available, active-active mission-critical infrastructure that powers Salesforce at scale. We treat the internal cloud as a product designed to maximize developer velocity through automation-first thinking and a strict "No Ticket-Ops" philosophy. We are defining the next generation of platform engineering by running a LEAN, innovative team (4–6 FTEs) that leverages AI as much as humanly possible. By integrating AI agents directly into our GitOps workflows and our enterprise WorkOS (Slack), we aim to build a smart, secure platform that our internal developers love.

The Shared Team DNA While every member of our team has a distinct focus area, we are all "T-shaped" engineers who learn from one another. Regardless of your title, you must share our collective passion for:

  • Customer Focus: Treating internal developers as our primary customers and prioritizing their velocity and user experience.

  • Automation: Eradicating manual toil and "ticket-ops" via GitOps and AI-augmented workflows.

  • Security: Believing that security should be "shifted left" and built into the code, not bolted on as an afterthought.

  • SRE Mindset: Engineering for failure, prioritizing self-healing systems, and maintaining a 99.999% availability standard.

  • Observability: Relying on telemetry, centralized logging, and ChatOps to proactively identify and resolve issues.

About the Role

As a Senior Manager and "Player-Coach," you are the Product Owner for our next-generation internal cloud platform. In our team's operational model, while your engineering leads determine how the platform is built and validated, you determine what needs to be built. You prioritize the strategic roadmap, own the primary relationship with our CISO and executive security stakeholders, and grow a high-performing engineering organization. You will bridge the gap between developer velocity and rigorous security, ensuring the platform meets our strictest Mission Critical and NIST 800-53 R5 compliance standards by design.

Your Impact - Responsibilities

  • Product Ownership & Strategy (Primary Focus)

    • The Roadmap: Act as the ultimate product owner for the platform. You will prioritize the roadmap (e.g., expanding to new geographic regions, supporting new computer architectures) based on customer needs and business value.

    • Stakeholder Alignment: Own the relationship with the Security organization and the CISO, ensuring our platform's automated guardrails satisfy enterprise compliance requirements seamlessly.

  • People Leadership & Culture

    • Team Growth: Hire, coach, and develop a LEAN, elite team SREs, Architects, and Security Automation Engineers, providing regular feedback and career guidance.

    • Operational Culture: Instill a "No Ticket-Ops" and "Shift-Left" philosophy where all tasks—from environment provisioning to incident response—are fully automated via CI/CD pipelines.

    • Collaboration: Foster an inclusive environment that values psychological safety, post-mortem excellence, and continuous learning.

  • FinOps & Technical Governance

    • Cloud Economics: Act as the ultimate owner of the cloud budget. Drive financial accountability across engineering teams by shifting cost-estimation left into the Pull Request process, flagging cost impacts before resources are deployed.

    • AI Integration: Oversee the strategic integration of AI Agents and LLMs into the GitOps workflow to automatically analyze infrastructure Pull Requests, accelerating approvals and reducing human toil.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or relevant work experience

  • 8+ years of software engineering/cloud infrastructure experience with 3+ years of direct people management experience.

  • Proven experience operating as a Product Owner or Engineering Manager for an enterprise-scale internal developer platform or cloud landing zone.

  • Deep understanding of multi-account cloud strategies, centralized governance, and programmatic preventative guardrails.

  • Proven track record of designing and operating mission-critical services with 99.999% uptime requirements, automated failover mechanisms, and active-active regional architectures.

  • Strong understanding of modern, cloud-native security paradigms, including "Private-by-Default" networking, centralized egress inspection, and enterprise-grade secrets management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading teams that implement and scale automated "vending machine" solutions to provision secure, compliant cloud environments instantly.

  • Background working within heavily regulated environments (e.g., NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, SOC 2, SOX) and automating compliance evidence collection.

  • Familiarity with leveraging LLMs and AI Agents to automate code reviews, security audits, or operational runbooks.

  • Track record of improving team engagement, diversity, and retention metrics within highly technical platform or SRE teams.
