What is the opportunity?
This position combines subject matter expertise with project management responsibilities, supporting the Regulatory Change Delivery team within RBC Capital Markets. The incumbent will drive regulatory change delivery and operational readiness across multiple high-priority initiatives including AWV German Reporting, SEC SBSD Migration, and GSAS Rewrite. The role is responsible for translating complex regulatory requirements into clear business requirements, conducting thorough gap and impact analysis, defining requirements, and ensuring robust controls and governance frameworks are embedded throughout solution design and implementation. This position is critical to ensuring RBC Capital Markets adheres to new rules as well as maintains regulatory compliance while optimizing operational efficiency across trade reporting and derivatives infrastructure.
What will you do?
Strategic & Analytical Leadership
Serve as the primary subject matter expert for assigned regulatory initiatives, providing authoritative analysis and recommendations to senior management, project sponsors, and cross-functional stakeholders on regulatory requirements, compliance gaps, and remediation approaches
Conduct comprehensive gap analyses and business impact assessments for regulatory projects, using advanced Excel modeling and VBA macros to quantify effort, risk, and resource requirements
Requirements & Process Definition
Lead end-to-end business process mapping for existing and proposed operational workflows, clearly delineating roles, responsibilities, interdependencies, control requirements, and identified gaps across all relevant functions and teams
Gather, document, and manage formal business requirements using RBC project management framework and standards, ensuring requirements are traceable, testable, and aligned with regulatory intent
Collaborate closely with the Head of Regulatory Change Delivery, BAU Product Managers, Compliance, IT partners, and external vendors to ensure requirements reflect business reality and technical feasibility
Maintain and escalate outstanding issues and dependencies through structured governance (RAID logs, Confluence pages, status reporting) to ensure visibility and timely resolution
Program Delivery & Quality Assurance
Develop and document comprehensive test packs and test plans; participate actively in testing initiatives to validate solution readiness against business requirements and regulatory obligations
Identify and recommend operational simplifications and efficiency improvements to senior management, balancing regulatory compliance with business optimization
Define and oversee tactical interim solutions where strategic system-based solutions are not yet available, ensuring these solutions maintain appropriate controls and do not create technical debt
Cross-Functional Coordination
Manage stakeholder relationships across PCM, Regulatory Services BAU, Compliance, IT, Business Transformation, Front Office, and Product Control functions; facilitate alignment on priorities, timelines, and trade-offs
Communicate progress, risks, and recommendations through regular updates to project sponsors, senior leadership, and key partners, adjusting communication style and detail level to audience and urgency.
What you need to succeed?
Must have:
Minimum 5 years of hands-on business analyst experience, with substantial focus (minimum 3 years) on regulatory or compliance-related projects
Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in Finance, Business, Engineering, Science or Math
Proven expertise in trade reporting and derivatives regulations across multiple jurisdictions (CSA - Canada, CFTC, SEC - US, FCA - UK, ESMA - Europe, ASIC, MAS - APAC); demonstrated knowledge of regulatory timelines, reporting standards, and compliance frameworks
Knowledge of derivatives products lifecycle and applicable market infrastructure
Advanced Excel proficiency, including demonstrated capability to develop and maintain complex VBA macros for data analysis, validation, and reporting
Skillful in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, etc.) and AI tools
Demonstrated experience leading business analysis on medium-to-large scale projects, managing multiple work streams and driving requirements to closure
Exceptional analytical capabilities, including the ability to decompose complex regulatory requirements into clear business requirements and operational workflows
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to present findings and recommendations to both technical and business audiences
Demonstrated expertise in controls design, including the ability to identify control gaps, recommend appropriate mitigations, and embed controls into operational processes
Proven ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines while maintaining quality and attention to detail; strong self-management and organizational skills.
Nice to have:
Project management certification (PMP, Prince2, or equivalent)
Deep knowledge of RBC's regulatory reporting environment, systems, and governance structures
Experience managing external vendors and consulting partners on regulatory or compliance initiatives
Familiarity with business process modeling tools (Visio, Lucidchart, or equivalent)
Background in trade execution, reporting, or post-trade operations.
Project management certification; advanced degree in a quantitative or business-related field
