Are you passionate about the daily management of Project Managers and Project Coordinators? Reporting to the Director, PMO, you will have strategic and operational responsibilities. You will oversee Project Management processes, methods, and standards with a focus on improving project delivery. You will also audit all IT projects and associated artifacts, throughout their duration and across all project phases, from Intake to Closure (including project charters, plans, budget and risks). The senior manager will work with senior leaders across the LCBO and will be the first escalation point for any project related issues.

About the Role

Project Delivery and Quality Assurance

  • Ensure disciplined and effective project delivery by following the established PMO methodology and Project Management best practices.
  • Monitor all IT projects from Intake to closure, inclusive of project objectives, budget, schedule and risks. Identify corrective actions where required, work with Project Managers to ensure proper risk mitigation measures and corrective actions are in place promptly.
  • Remove barriers/blockers, provide guidance and direction in complex project scenarios to ensure projects are moving forward.
  • Mentor PMs and PCs on Project Management best practices. As a subject matter expert, provide practical advice on various aspects of project delivery, including stakeholder management, communication, planning, budgeting, scope and procurement management.
  • Support executive‑level governance forums with decision‑quality information. Be a trusted advisor to senior leaders and business stakeholders.
  • Review project artifacts for accuracy.
  • Enhance project management standards, guidelines, and templates, (i.e., related to IT projects, Steering Committee meetings and executive reviews).

People Management

  • Manage all Project Managers and Project Coordinators within the IT Division (FTEs and contractors).
  • Partner with Project Managers and PCs to develop annual goals and ensure team members are progressing as planned.
  • Encourage a spirit of collaboration, commitment, and trust.
  • Contribute to workforce capability planning and skills development within PMO.

Intake / Prioritization

  • Assist the Director of the PMO in the evaluation and prioritization process of corporate IT projects in adherence with established strategic goals and fiscal requirements.
  • Participate in the IT Intake, Complexity Assessment, and Planning / Discovery phases.
  • Partner with the Business and other IT Departments to provide oversight on the PMO process.

Management / Tracking Commitment

  • Keep track of issues in existing projects, actively participate in issue resolution and escalate concerns to the Director, PMO where necessary.
  • Guide team members to ensure alignment on commitments made as part of project execution.
  • Work with team to make sure status reports are suitable for presentation to the executive level.

About You

  • Minimum of 5 years of coaching/leadership experience
  • Minimum of 7 years of project management experience
  • Change Management experience
  • Experience with PMI Project Management methodology.
  • Program management skills and experience, and significant knowledge of project planning tools with evidence of practical application.
  • Exceptional leadership and team building skills with the ability to inspire and motivate PM staff.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual planning and execution skills.
  • MS Project Online or MS Project Server Experience
  • Hold professional designation (CSM, PMP, SAFe Agilist or SAFe Lean Portfolio Manager)
  • Deep understanding of current and emerging technologies and how they may be applied to the enterprise to drive digital business.
  • Experience developing and executing a strategic resource plan.
