We have an opening for a Senior Manager of Platform Engineering, who will function as a strategic product owner for parts of our cloud-native platform, driving a culture of managed autonomy and accountability. You will lead a team to define, deliver, and operate critical platform pieces and infrastructure, ensuring the platform's continued relevance and adoption across the wider organization.

Every single day! We seek a talented Cloud & Kubernetes Leader to set the technical direction and champion the platform's vision, utilizing technologies like Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Istio, OTEL, Clickhouse, and AWS, among others. In this role, you will deliver functionality critical to the rollout of many of Constant Contact’s key initiatives and drive the necessary cultural changes to support a mature platform engineering organization. What You’ll Do:

  • Platform Product Ownership & Strategy: Define the platform's long-term roadmap and prioritize the backlog by acting as a Platform Product Owner to align team efforts with broader organizational needs, drive developer velocity, and deliver maximum impact amid evolving business needs.
  • Organizational Enablement: Act as a sponsor and champion for the platform, collaborating with executive and stakeholder teams (operations, security, compliance, engineering, and architecture) to prioritize high-level goals and ensure the platform can accommodate their guidance.
  • Team Leadership & Empowerment: Promote a culture of autonomy and accountability within the team, empowering them to address edge cases effectively, drive innovation, and proactively seek architectural improvements and automated solutions for daily operations, deployment, and monitoring. Help the team to appropriately plan, creating meaningful milestones, and provide appropriate updates to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Technical Guidance & Mentorship: Provide guidance in cloud-based engineering, as well as mentor members of the team on best practices, architecture, and development, and ensure a collective focus on observability systems and product delivery tasks. Participate in a rotational on-call schedule (e.g., 1 week in 5) including providing some after-hours expertise or guidance (Note: Business hours are 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM ET.)

Who You Are:

  • Leadership & Experience: 4+ years of professional leadership combined work experience in DevOps, SRE, System Administration, or similar roles is required to be successful in this role.
  • Product Mindset: Proven ability to define and leverage platform usage metrics and developer satisfaction, to understand and direct adoption and scaling of the platform as an internal product.
  • Technical Fluency: Deep understanding of the technical landscape, including Kubernetes, Docker, and ArgoCD, to effectively guide and mentor your team. You should also be skilled at learning complex processes quickly and demonstrate a proactive mindset through independent research.
  • Coding & Architecture: Demonstrable programming abilities in scripting languages like Bash and Python, and an ability to contribute to the architecture and design of platform engineering products.
  • Communicative: Ability to simplify complex issues and demonstrate effective written and verbal skills, examples: Translating user requests into workable user-stories, designing meaningful presentations, drafting internal blog posts to offer insights, and writing meaningful agendas and running meetings
  • B.S. in Computer Science/MIS/CIS (or related discipline).

Bonus Points:

  • Proven experience in driving product adoption for an internal platform, demonstrating a strong product mindset by defining and tracking platform usage metrics and developer satisfaction.
  • Track record of successfully mentoring engineers into more senior/specialized roles (e.g., SRE, IaC expert).
  • Istio/Gloo Mesh experience is a benefit.
  • Experience with IaC, Git / GitOps, AWS is desirable.
  • Experience with OpenStack, Ansible, Puppet, and Terraform would be rarely needed but useful skills to bring to the team as well.
  • Knowledge of Linux system internals and common tools would be a benefit to anyone in this role. In particular, being comfortable using tools like top, strace, lsof, etc., would be a useful aid in your work.
  • Java EE/Jakarta experience writing/troubleshooting Java applications using Maven, Tomcat, TomEE, Quarkus, and related technologies is a major plus.
  • Experience in database systems like MySQL, Redis, Cassandra, would be helpful.
  • M.S. in Computer Science/MIS/CIS (or related discipline).

The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education and work location. In addition, some roles may be eligible for additional on target commission pay or bonus. The compensation package includes health and welfare benefits including paid leave.
