What you will do:

This role is pivotal to ensuring Marketing processes within the Marketing, Communications and Social Impact (MCSI) team support our commitment to risk management and regulatory compliance.  This role applies risk and compliance best practices to an ever-evolving marketing landscape.   By establishing a strong foundational control environment, the teams can move with pace towards our enterprise priorities.   

Relationship Management

  • Develop a strong understanding of the Marketing team’s environment including how their line of business partner priorities is woven into Marketing actions.

  • Become the trusted advisor for the Marketing teams as they navigate new or changing processes.

  • Engage both risk and compliance partners to ensure there is comprehensive, accurate coverage of the Marketing teams both in our processes and how we contribute to the bank’s overall risk and compliance profile.

  • Advise the Vendor Management Office if the team’s use of third parties may have potential impacts to our regulatory assessment through the SEMS (3rd party risk) process.

Control Testing

  • Execute both design and operating effectiveness tests to enterprise standards.

  • Provide constructive feedback to the Marketing teams in the spirit of continuous process improvement.

  • Ensure controls required by risk partners have been appropriately tested for the Marketing teams.

  • Develop and maintain test plans with the support of second line of defense partners.

First Line of Defense Risk/Compliance:

  • Act as the designated point of contact for Risk and Compliance for the Marketing teams

  • Collaborate with other members of the MCSI Governance (1B) team to validate the total MCSI view of risk and compliance remains accurate

  • Support the separate annual assessments for Risk and Compliance

  • Guide the Marketing teams through applicable Issues (ex. Control testing failures, third party cyber assessments) and any losses or events that need to be recorded in the enterprise book of record GRCE.

  • Actively participate in BMO’s Risk and Compliance programs to sharpen and develop knowledge.

  • Provide written and verbal opinions/updates/recommendations to the Marketing leadership team.  

Must Have Skills:

You have experience in both Risk and Compliance management, particularly in interpreting business processes from a risk/compliance perspective.  You have experience using risk/compliance management tools such as GRCE (risk, regulatory compliance, testing, risk assessment).  Relevant experience at BMO is preferred.  Your skills include:

  • Typically, 7+ years of relevant experience (risk management, compliance, financial services, marketing) and post-secondary degree in related fields of study (e.g., MBA) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Verbal & written communication skills - In-depth / Expert.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills - In-depth / Expert.

  • Data driven decision making - In-depth / Expert.

  • Influence skills - In-depth / Expert.

  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, with an expectation of 3 days per week on‑site at BMO Place.

Salary:

$86,000.00 - $160,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
