Job Summary

The Senior Manager: Internal Marketing leads the execution of integrated internal marketing strategies that strengthen organisational culture, enhance employee engagement, and build advocacy. This role ensures that colleagues are informed, inspired, and aligned to the organisation’s purpose, values, and strategic priorities through compelling, digitally enabled campaigns. Operating within a complex, multi-channel environment, the role drives innovation in internal communications, leverages data-driven insights, and partners with leadership to embed a strong internal brand experience that supports business performance and transformation.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

Internal Marketing Strategy & Governance

  • Embed internal marketing strategies aligned to organisational objectives and cultural priorities.

  • Ensure governance and consistency of messaging across all internal channels and platforms.

Digital Communication & Innovation

  • Leverage digital platforms (e.g., Abs Engage, intranet, mobile apps) to deliver personalised, interactive content.

  • Introduce innovative formats such as video storytelling, podcasts, and gamified engagement tools.

Content Creation & Campaign Delivery

  • Oversee the development of clear, engaging, and relevant content tailored to diverse internal audiences.

  • Plan and execute integrated campaigns that promote initiatives, values, and strategic priorities.

Employee Engagement & Advocacy

  • Design programs that increase employee participation and advocacy, reinforcing a positive workplace culture.

  • Partner with leadership to amplify key messages and foster two-way communication.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with HR, Communications, and business units to align messaging and employee experience.

  • Facilitate forums and workshops to co-create engagement strategies with stakeholders.

Measurement & Continuous Improvement

  • Track campaign performance and engagement metrics; analyse data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.

  • Prepare insights-driven reports for leadership and recommend enhancements to internal marketing strategies.

Change Management Support

  • Develop communication plans that support organisational change initiatives, ensuring clarity and employee buy-in.

  • Provide guidance on tone, messaging, and sequencing for sensitive or complex changes.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Advanced Diploma, or B Tech [NQF 7]

  • Field of Study (Preferred):

    • Marketing

    • Corporate Communications

Work Experience:

  • 5 - 12 years experience in marketing, including a track record of 3 years in a people management position.

  • Exposure to process design, optimisation, quality management, customer centricity, technology and data-driven decision-making is preferred.

  • Proven success in delivering integrated internal campaigns that drive measurable engagement.

  • Experience in managing communications during organisational change.

  • Familiarity with employee engagement platforms and digital content tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across functions without direct authority.
