Who are we hiring?

Sphere is seeking a Manager responsible for leading a team of Immersive Video Engineers to support one of the largest media server installations globally, feeding a 160,000 sq. ft. 16K x 16K LED media plane. The ideal candidate will have experience in programming 7th Sense, Disguise, or other media server platforms, and will facilitate discussions between Venue Operations, Sphere Studios, and external productions to implement and operate shows.

What will you do?

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and mentor a team of Immersive Video Engineers, ensuring optimal performance, professional development, and adherence to company standards.
  • Coordinate team schedules to ensure 100% event coverage and effective management of workload.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment, promoting knowledge sharing and effective communication.

Systems Management:

  • Oversee programming and maintenance of media servers and equipment, ensuring top operational condition, facilitating emergency repairs, and scheduled maintenance.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as Display Systems, IT, and Broadcast teams to troubleshoot and resolve display and network connectivity issues.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping of work and maintenance activities, and facilitate quick resolution of unresolved issues.

Business/Process Management:

  • Collaborate with Technical Operations to manage additional playback systems, including atrium activations and digital signage.
  • Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures, training guides, and documentation to ensure efficient operations.
  • Demonstrate proactive problem-solving and strategic thinking to navigate challenges and promote company success.

Senior Leadership / Client Interaction:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for guest and visiting video teams as the bridge between our team and theirs
  • Represent the video department to senior leadership as the technical SME for all video systems within the department’s scope
  • Coordinate with external clients to modify Sphere systems to accommodate incoming shows
  • Maintain Sphere and enforce policies and procedures for guest usage of Sphere systems
  • Take point on technical investigations of any video errors which effect guest or client experience

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of proven experience in high-profile live production environments, with advanced knowledge of media servers such as 7thSense, Disguise, Pandora, and Hippo.
  • Strong understanding of networking and IP configuration, with experience in both software and hardware aspects of media servers.
  • Preference for experience in 3D spaces and large-scale media server installations, as well as familiarity with SMPTE 2110, LED video walls, and scripting skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and resolve conflicts.
  • Flexibility to work in a dynamic environment, including nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional travel to NYC, Burbank, and trade conferences.
  • Strong diplomatic communication skills and professional appearance to negotiate interactions with clients and senior leadership

Pay Range
$113,000$180,000 USD
