Job Description:
The Senior Manager, Third Party Risk (TPR) and Resiliency is a core role within the Third Party Risk Management and Operational Resiliency organization. This role will lead a team focused on engaging with businesses and corporate segments, and interact with various stakeholders, including Segment and Enterprise Operational Risk Management and Line of Business Governance & Control Functions. The Senior TPR Specialist will advise, support, and challenge risk owners on risks that arise from the usage of third party arrangements, ensuring risks are effectively understood, assessed, and monitored, and appropriate risk mitigation strategies are established. The successful candidate will be accountable (along with other members of the leadership team) for the continued evolution of the framework that governs how the team operates and engages with partners and stakeholders across the bank.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Deliver Risk Management Leadership
- Lead the development and/or implementation of specific standards, policies and/or processes that identify, report on, and mitigate third party risk exposures and enable operational resiliency.
- Manage an assigned business group of third parties and prepare portfolio-wide and transaction-specific analysis with recommendations.
- Build and maintain an understanding of business-specific third party risks and advise business risk owners on how to improve or mitigate risk.
- Proactively analyze potential third party and operational resiliency related risks and ensure escalation of key risks to appropriate areas and accountable executives.
- Establish and provide ongoing analysis and reporting on third party and resiliency risks.
- Review findings and action plans with business leaders to mitigate and manage key issues.
- Support enterprise-wide third party risk and operational resiliency escalation, review and approval processes, data management, policies, and risk assessment processes.
- Direct the development and monitoring of Key Risk Indicators and facilitate communication across relevant business segments and broader stakeholders.
- Coordinate with risk stakeholders to enable a comprehensive view of material gaps across contracts and third party controls, and (with second line partners) provide oversight on the appropriateness of proposed mitigants to both contract and control deviations and proposed remediation plans.
- Enable identification of critical and business significant third party arrangements.
- Act as the Third Party Risk Management (TPRM) liaison for business during material events impacting the business' supply chain / operational resiliency.
Drive Shareholder Value
- Enable adherence to enterprise third-party risk and operational resiliency frameworks and methodologies.
- Ensure third party risk and resiliency programs/policies/practices are well managed, meet business needs, comply with internal and external requirements, and align with business priorities.
- Consistently exercise discretion in managing correspondence, information, and all matters of confidentiality; escalate issues where appropriate.
- Ensure applicable internal and external requirements are followed within team (e.g., financial controls, segregation of duties, transaction approvals, and physical control of assets).
- Participate in cross-functional/enterprise/initiatives as a third party risk and resiliency subject matter expert helping to identify risk/provide guidance for complex situations.
- Conduct internal and external research; support the development/delivery of presentations/communications to management or broader audience.
- Conduct meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level using results to draw conclusions, make recommendations, assess the effectiveness of programs/policies/practices.
- Monitor service, productivity and assess efficiency levels within own team and implement continuous improvements where opportunities exist.
- Lead, facilitate, and implement actions/remediation plans to address performance, risk, or governance issues.
- Actively manage relationships within and across various business lines, corporate, and functions and ensure alignment with enterprise and regulatory requirements.
- Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts.
- Maintain a culture of risk management and control, supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite.
Enable Employee and Team Engagement
- Actively lead a team of risk professionals, participate as a member of the TPRM leadership team, and support a positive work environment that promotes quality, innovation, and teamwork.
- Ensure timely communication of issues and points of interest.
- Provide thought leadership and industry knowledge and participate in knowledge transfer across the team and broader set of stakeholders and partners.
- Stay current on third party risk and resiliency related emerging trends, and grow knowledge of the business, tools, and methodologies.
- Participate in personal performance management and development activities, including cross training team members.
- Keep team and executive informed on the status and progress of projects, and relevant information on day-to-day operations.
- Contribute to team development of skills and capabilities through mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and leveraging experience and best practices.
- Lead, motivate and develop relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders to develop collaborative, productive working relationships.
- Contribute to a fair, positive and equitable environment that supports a diverse workforce.
- Act as a brand ambassador (internally and externally) for Third Party Risk and Operational Resiliency, broader Non-Financial Risk, and the bank.
Bring Breadth & Depth of Experience
- Recognized as top level third party risk expert with significant depth and breadth of expertise in third party risk management and operational resiliency.
- Senior specialist with demonstrated capability to deliver advisory services to executives, business leaders, and risk management leadership.
- Integrates knowledge of enterprise, business, segment and risk strategies into program design, policy, and operating standards.
- Anticipates emerging trends, regulatory changes, and risks and recommends forward looking improvements.
- Provides innovative thinking to develop new solutions.
Experience & Education
- Undergraduate degree required (business, engineering, technology, mathematics, or economics focused preferred).
- Graduate degree (e.g., MBA, MaSc., etc.) beneficial.
- 10+ years relevant experience, including demonstrated experience in second line of defence function with accountability for oversight of a business / key non-financial risk domain.
- Strong acumen in third party risk (including knowledge of contracts, vendor management, procurement, and associated processes) and third party operational resiliency.
- Ability to drive team's work portfolio independently, with awareness of when to escalate.
- Strategic and operational awareness.
- Excellent storytelling and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to stakeholder and partner in a matrixed environment.
