The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Global Employment Compliance to join our Firm.  This position will be based in our New York office (hybrid). In this role, you will oversee firmwide compliance with all employment-related regulations and requirements, including managing adherence to federal contractor obligations, bar admission and licensing rules, and federal, state and local employment laws. You will be an integral role in centralizing compliance activities across the Firm and improving operational efficiency through proactive risk management, best practices and technology solutions. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Drives long-term strategic planning by identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency, centralize compliance activities, and streamline workflows through technology and other resources.
  • Leads and develops a high-performance compliance team by setting clear goals, providing coaching and feedback, and fostering collaboration to ensure initiatives are executed effectively and align with firm and department objectives.
  • Researches and monitors emerging employment-related federal, state and local legal and regulatory requirements and analyzes their impact on existing policy, employment practices, and HRIS systems.
  • Recommends thoughtful and informed strategies to ensure compliance with new or amended employment laws.
  • Communicates clearly to stakeholders how changes to legal and regulatory requirements will impact Firm practices.
  • Partners with the Office of General Counsel to determine the Firm's response to new legal and regulatory requirements, including preparing impact analyses for attorney review.
  • Facilitates internal discussions among key stakeholders when determining the Firm response to compliance-related employment matters.
  • Oversees implementation of process, policy and system updates resulting from new compliance requirements, collaborating closely with the HRIS team and other departments across offices.
  • Drafts and revises employee handbook policies to reflect employment law changes and internal policies, and manages the annual handbook acknowledgement process.
  • Collaborates with the international offices to maintain compliance with local regulations as they relate to all aspects of the People Teams functions, and identifies opportunities to create consistency across offices when legally permissible.
  • Oversees annual prevention of harassment training and other required compliance training.
  • Maintains ongoing compliance with cyclical or ad hoc statutory reporting and safety plan requirements.
  • Builds strong relationships with key stakeholders to enhance and ensure the timely integration of employment compliance requirements into their processes.
  • Ensures the Firm's compliance with federal contractor regulatory requirements.
  • Supports data management and reporting with respect to employment compliance, including federal contractor regulations, privacy laws and other legal requirements.
  • Ensures current knowledge of Firm policies and practices, current knowledge of industry trends, and continued professional development for business services professionals.
  • Participates in the interviewing, selection and training process.
  • Monitors time, attendance, overtime, and expense reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with Firm policies. [If applicable]
  • Initiates disciplinary procedures in collaboration with the Human Resources Department.
  • Develops and communicates departmental guidelines and procedures. [If applicable]
  • Regular and reliable physical presence to (ex: work as part of a team, meet with clients, use on-site equipment, etc.) [If applicable]
  • Forecasts financial and budget requirements for the department, prepares related reports, and monitors the budget. [If applicable]
  • Utilizes the Firm's performance management process to communicate performance expectations, monitor performance, and address performance concerns.
  • Assures accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to foster effective work relationships.
  • Adheres to and upholds Firm policies and procedures.
  • Manages Firm resources responsibly.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.   

Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of Human Resources principles and practices, including employment laws and regulations, with law firm experience preferred
  • Knowledge of licensing and CLE requirements and processes across multiple jurisdictions
  • Demonstrates functional knowledge of HRIS systems data and reporting
  • Experience with drafting and reviewing employee handbooks
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and  work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lead a team both during and after organizational changes
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders, management, and attorneys
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills
  • Ability to administer Firm policies and procedures
  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment
  • Strong data analytic skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of eight years of professional experience, including five years of employment compliance experience, law firm preferred
  • Minimum of three years managing others

The starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details.  Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law.

Salary Details

$210,000 - $230,000
