Instawork

Senior Manager, FP&A

San Francisco, California, United States Full Time

Instawork is on a mission to create meaningful economic opportunities for skilled hourly professionals in communities around the globe. Our AI-powered labor marketplace helps local businesses scale, and enables global technology companies to push the frontiers of robotics and AI. Backed by world-class investors like Benchmark, Spark Capital, Craft Ventures, Greylock, Y Combinator, and others, we’re looking for exceptional talent to reimagine the way the world works.

This is a rare opportunity to own a broad, high-impact scope at the intersection of FP&A, strategic finance, and AI-powered decision-making. As a Manager or Senior Manager on the Finance team, you will drive the financial management of the business — from budgeting and forecasting to strategic planning and reporting — while helping build the AI-enabled workflows that will define how modern finance teams operate. You will partner with senior leaders across the company to drive key decisions on operations, strategic initiatives, and resource allocation, and serve as a pivotal leader within a lean, high-velocity Finance organization.

What You’ll Do

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Own the budgeting and forecasting cycle end-to-end, including preparation of monthly management discussion and analysis at close.
  • Build and maintain detailed financial projections supporting the annual operating plan, long-range strategic plan, and rolling forecasts.
  • Enhance internal financial reporting packages that highlight growth drivers and performance relative to plan.
  • Guide analysis and modeling for growth and strategic initiatives, including new business lines, markets, and product investments.
  • Continuously identify and implement improvements to forecasting methodology, refining your approach over time.

GTM & Business Finance

  • Partner with GTM, Business Operations, and Product teams on driver-based revenue models, KPI frameworks, and financial performance analysis.
  • Surface commercial insights, flag risks early, and provide data-backed recommendations to improve decision-making.
  • Lead preparation of Board presentations, weekly/monthly business reviews, and ad hoc financial analyses.

AI-Powered Finance

  • Champion the use of AI tools — including agentic workflows, LLMs, and automation platforms — to fundamentally transform how FP&A work gets done.
  • Systematically identify and automate repetitive manual processes (data pulls, variance commentary, model refreshes) to free capacity for higher-value analysis.
  • Partner with Business Operations and Engineering to build scalable, AI-assisted financial reporting and planning infrastructure.
  • Stay ahead of emerging AI tools in finance; be an internal advocate for adopting what moves the needle.

Accounting Partnership & Controls

  • Partner closely with Accounting on monthly close, annual audit, and implementation of new systems and processes.
  • Support the evolution of Instawork’s finance function toward public-company readiness in process, controls, and reporting.
  • Support ad hoc financial analyses as needed across the organization.

Who You Are

Experience & Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in FP&A, corporate finance, strategic finance, or a related role; strong preference for tech company background or top-tier consulting, banking, or PE/VC experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain complex financial models from scratch; advanced Excel skills required.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP; able to serve as an effective liaison with the Accounting team.
  • Proven track record of partnering with senior business leaders to drive cross-functional execution on company goals.
  • Comfortable operating between detail-oriented analysis and big-picture strategic thinking — you can “see the forest from the trees.”
  • Experience operating effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments, using data to draw conclusions and build models from scratch.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or CPA is a plus.

How You Operate

  • You approach problems with genuine intellectual curiosity and a strong bias to act rather than wait.
  • You operate like an owner — you bring urgency, follow-through, and a solutions-first mindset, regardless of your job title.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills, with formidable attention to detail.
  • You communicate with clarity, candor, and the ability to translate complex financial narratives for non-finance audiences.
  • Passion for the professional community Instawork serves, and desire to help hourly workers earn more and lead better lives.
