Anthropic

Senior Manager, Finance Strategic Projects

San Francisco, CA Full Time

About Anthropic

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the role

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you'll serve as the operational backbone for Anthropic's global Finance organization. As a strategic orchestrator, you'll anticipate leadership needs, transform complexity into clarity, and ensure seamless execution of the organization's top priorities. In this role, you'll optimize our ability to scale by taking on strategic projects and acting as the connective tissue that keeps the Finance engine running as we continue to drive the development and adoption of safe, frontier AI.

The Senior Manager, Finance Strategic Projects role is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing operational processes that drive efficiency and scalability across the Finance organization. Finance has meaningfully integrated Claude into its workflows, and this role will help sustain and expand that — championing new ways to deepen Claude's use across the team. You'll identify process improvements and automation opportunities, establish systems for tracking and optimizing resource utilization, manage cross-functional workflows and vendor relationships, and build operational frameworks that enable teams to maintain high standards while scaling rapidly in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on operational leadership to the CFO, serving as a strategic partner and delegate to remove barriers and accelerate decision-making
  • Own end-to-end execution of key strategic initiatives across FP&A, Accounting, Tax, Treasury, and Finance Systems
  • Consolidate critical business intelligence from multiple channels and systems into actionable priorities, establishing clear rhythms for leadership attention and resource allocation
  • Lead prioritization and orchestration of CFO engagement with internal executive stakeholders, the Board, investors, and external partners
  • Drive alignment and execution of key initiatives across global Finance teams, ensuring seamless coordination and accountability
  • Design and implement processes and workflows to support Anthropic's growth while maintaining quality and speed
  • Champion and drive the Finance organization's continued adoption of Claude, identifying and leading new opportunities to integrate Claude deeper into daily workflows across FP&A, Accounting, Tax, Treasury, and Finance Systems
  • Identify automation opportunities and build operational frameworks that scale with the business

You may be a good fit if you:

  • Have 8+ years of experience in Finance, Strategy, Business Operations, or Chief of Staff roles at high-growth technology companies
  • Bring a strong foundation in finance or a highly analytical discipline, with an understanding of how Finance organizations operate end-to-end
  • Demonstrate strong project management skills with the ability to collaborate and influence cross-functional stakeholders
  • Possess exceptional operational discipline to make smart decisions quickly while maintaining high standards for execution
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for applying AI tools (especially Claude) to finance workflows
  • Thrive in ambiguity and can rapidly synthesize complex information into actionable insights

Strong candidates may also have:

  • Experience in FP&A, investment banking, management consulting, or corporate strategy
  • Experience working at both startups and large companies, understanding how to scale processes
  • Track record of designing and implementing systems and processes for high-growth environments
  • Global business experience and comfort operating across different markets and cultures
  • Previous experience supporting and/or collaborating with C-level executives, particularly a CFO.

How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
