Senior Manager, Employer Underwriting – Project & Process Management

Position Summary

The Senior Manager, Employer Underwriting will lead high-impact projects and process initiatives that support the strategic direction of the Employer Underwriting organization. This role will partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders on complex underwriting activities, client commitments, operational readiness, and compliance with Underwriting Standards of Practice.

The Senior Manager will manage the Underwriting Capacity Planning Tool, oversee Welcome Season implementation readiness, audit compliance with underwriting standards—including pricing accuracy—and support unique client commitments from award through downstream implementation.

This position requires advanced analytical skills, strong project leadership, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to influence across all levels of the organization. This position plays a pivotal part in representing the Employer Underwriting team, shaping process improvements, and ensuring exceptional execution across the underwriting lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Project Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead complex, high-visibility ad hoc projects supporting Employer Underwriting priorities, including projects that impact strategic RFP readiness, underwriting process optimization, and organizational alignment.
  • Act as a primary liaison between Underwriting and key partners including Pricing, Networks, ANCS, Rebates, Proposals, Sales, Operations, and Implementation.
  • Support strategic bid efforts by ensuring underwriting tools align with competitive intelligence and internal capabilities.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure unique client offerings identified during the sales and RFP process are accurately communicated and clearly documented.

Process Ownership & Operational Readiness

  • Own and maintain the Underwriting Capacity Planning Tool, including forecasting, enhancements, and reporting insights for leadership.
  • Lead Welcome Season implementation readiness for Employer Underwriting, ensuring processes, timelines, workloads, and resources are aligned.
  • Support execution activities that ensure Underwriting deliverables flow seamlessly through the organization as clients move from award through implementation.

Standards of Practice, Pricing Compliance & Auditing

  • Ensure full adherence to Underwriting Standards of Practice across the team, including pricing governance and procedural compliance.
  • Develop and operationalize audit routines that measure compliance with underwriting, pricing, and process standards.
  • Partner with audit teams to identify trends or gaps discovered through audits and collaborate with leadership to implement improvements.

Documentation, Training & Knowledge Management

  • Document unique client commitments made during RFPs or negotiations and serve as the central point of truth for these requirements.
  • Ensure Final Approval Forms (FAFs) are accurately completed, clearly capturing unique terms and pricing assumptions.
  • Train Underwriting team members on new processes, commitments, changes to Standards of Practice, and operational updates.
  • Assist with consolidating competitive intelligence for use in future underwriting opportunities.

Analytical Insight & Performance Monitoring

  • Monitor new client performance relative to underwriting assumptions; identify variances and support refinement of future assumptions.
  • Partner with senior leaders to highlight opportunities for profitability improvement and risk mitigation in future bids.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on analytics, trends, and audit findings.


Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in underwriting, pricing, analytics, project management, or PBM operations.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the PBM or healthcare environment.
  • Experience working with or supporting underwriting or pricing functions.
  • Strong project management experience with the ability to manage cross-functional projects involving multiple timelines and stakeholders.
  • Advanced Excel capability, including modeling, pivot tables, and complex formulas.
  • Strong PowerPoint skills with the ability to communicate insights clearly.
  • Proven ability to influence without direct authority and work effectively across multiple organizational levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving business needs.
  • Working knowledge of competitive intelligence, underwriting drivers, contract performance, or pricing strategy.
  • Experience developing documentation, executive summaries, or training materials.
  • Familiarity with underwriting governance, pricing compliance, or process audit routines.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (preferred but not required).

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$67,900.00 - $182,549.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
