The Product Discovery and Experimentation Team sits within the Chief Information Office for Technology. Our mission is to help business units take bold bets, raise the standard of discovery and experimentation, create leverage with AI- powered ways of working and help teams move faster with clarity and confidence. We are at the forefront of technology, using innovative and emerging technology to help our customer and support our Group Strategy. 

We work hard to ensure that best practice, whether inside CommBank or outside in the broader technology ecosystem, is discovered, sheltered, nurtured, and spread to wherever else it can drive the most benefit for the Group and our customers.

You will help uncover high-potential opportunities, frame the right problems, and guide teams toward validated outcomes. Your work may involve AI prototypes, exploratory tests, customer research, business-case framing, or early-stage platform thinking. 

You’ll act as the front door for innovation, helping senior leaders surface and shape ideas and determining how best to progress them. You won’t just support innovation, you will raise the standard of how innovation is delivered. 

On any given week, you will: 

Lead structured discovery and experimentation 

• Work in a triad with engineering and design to uncover customer needs and technical feasibility. 

• Form hypotheses, prioritise assumptions, and design lean tests that generate real insights. 

• Translate discovery outcomes into momentum - direction statements, prototypes, or investment-ready cases. 

Shape opportunities and guide strategic decision-making 

• Act as a front door for early-stage ideas, helping leaders’ surface, frame, and route ambitious concepts. 

• Bring sharp judgment on whether to build, partner, pivot, or pause- based on evidence, feasibility, and value. 

• Connect innovation work to strategic, technical, and commercial goals. 

Explore and apply emerging technology — especially AI 

• Stay across emerging trends and identify where emerging technology can create meaningful value for customers or internal teams. 

• Test AI-powered concepts and evaluate their feasibility and potential impact. 

• Help teams adopt AI-powered ways of working that accelerate discovery and decision-making. 

Lift capability and culture 

• Coach peers and partners in discovery, experimentation, and AI literacy. 

• Foster curiosity, creativity, and continuous learning within the team and beyond. 

About You:  

• A strategic thinker and hands-on doer - you move easily between vision and validation 

• Deeply experienced in product discovery and experimentation, with strong instincts for what makes a great idea real 

• Extensive experience in product, innovation or a related role, ideally in complex or regulated environments 

• Proven track record leading early-stage discovery, including hypothesis development, test design, and validation 

• Proven experience working in cross-functional triads - especially with engineering and design 

• Strong influencing, communication, and relationship-building skills trusted by stakeholders across disciplines and levels 

• Confident engaging with senior leaders and aligning diverse perspectives toward shared outcomes 

• Curious, commercially sharp, and pragmatic about value — you know how to spot signal over noise 

• Comfortable supporting others and growing capability within the team 

• Known for creating momentum, bringing clarity, and helping teams move faster with confidence
