The Team:

Transactions Data Stewardship team sits within the Global Markets Data Stewardship pillar of SPGI’s Enterprise Data Organisation (EDO). It encompasses M&A, Offerings, Spin-off, Buyback and Bankruptcy transactions, and is responsible for supporting variety of product initiatives involving vendor onboarding, data ingestion and data flow across Capital IQ, Capital IQ Pro, Equity Deals Database and 451 Research products. The team deals in management of data & procedures, along with running multiple checks on the database for various metrics. The team is also involved in resolving client issues, which are escalated from time to time. The Data Product Owner leads this team, ensuring the quality and integrity of data assets, setting stewardship standards, and overseeing the end-to-end data lifecycle. This role also drives data strategy, aligns policies, and leads governance by defining business rules and guiding the team through validation and testing processes.

The Impact:                                              

This is a senior people-leader role within the team, requiring a highly collaborative approach to bring together diverse stakeholders and shape, prioritize, and execute business strategies through customer-centric data initiatives. The leader will operate in a cross-functional environment, partnering closely with Data Management, Operations Managers, Product and its support functions, and Agile development teams to deliver scalable outcomes. Success in this role depends on strong project/program management, data analytics and critical thinking, and exceptional communication and stakeholder management to align priorities, remove execution barriers, and ensure consistent delivery against milestones and service-level commitments. Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the team by managing 3–5 Data Stewards, mentoring across levels, reporting status to stakeholders, and balancing ~80% execution with ~20% people leadership.
  • Own data quality operations by managing validation checks, lineage tracking, and metadata updates across the dataset.
  • Set dataset governance direction by defining policies, standards, business rules, and operational priorities for the data product.
  • Align stewardship execution to outcomes by mapping tasks to business objectives and service-level agreements (SLAs).
  • Lead UAT and change delivery for backend/product enhancements, governance activities, taxonomy management, and ingestion workflows.
  • Drive vendor and platform strategy including vendor cost optimization, pipeline integration, and EDO modernization/harmonization initiatives.
  • Manage delivery and escalation outcomes by executing roadmap commitments, responding to client escalations, and implementing long-term corrective actions.
  • Strengthen process excellence through policy alignment discussions, consolidated research, strong documentation, and continuous improvement to reduce duplication and inefficiency.

What We’re Looking For:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, Economics, Statistics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or Engineering
  • Strong hands-on experience with SQL, Python (preferred), Microsoft Office, Power Platform tools, and AI-enabled workflows for data validation, automation, and analysis.
  • Solid understanding of S&P products (Capital IQ Pro, CapitalIQ, Excel Plug-ins) and the end-to-end data lifecycle, including ingestion, transformation, and quality controls.
  • Expertise in data mining, analysis, and converting complex data into clear visualizations.
  • Working knowledge of SAFe Agile concepts, scrum practices, sprint planning, backlog management, and iterative project execution.
  • Strong grasp of data governance, metadata management, taxonomy, lineage, schema integrity, and backend data standards.
  • Demonstrated capability in managing and developing teams, coaching, feedback, and succession planning, with emotional intelligence and ability to lead across cultures.
  • Ability to anticipate impacts, identify risks and opportunities, shape data strategy, and solve business problems creatively and effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, skilled at influencing without authority, and building relationships across cross-functional teams.
  • High adaptability to shifting priorities, strong learning agility, digital acumen, and continuous improvement mindset, including flexibility for evening shifts and varied hours

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in data stewardship, data governance, data management, or related data roles, including experience leading or mentoring teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects effectively, driving results in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of positive client and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with Transactions dataset is a plus.
