Job Description

About the role:

Reporting directly to Head of Compliance, Greater China ex Taiwan, this position serves as the lead compliance advisor for the ETF business in Hong Kong and across the APAC region. The role is expected to work independently and acts as the primary point of contact for ETF‑related regulatory matters, ensuring high‑quality and commercially aligned compliance support to the business while maintaining strong regulatory engagement with key authorities. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing ETF regulatory obligations, driving the interpretation and implementation of regulatory changes, and ensuring adherence to applicable laws, exchange requirements, and internal compliance standards. The role also collaborates closely with regional and global Compliance teams to promote consistent standards, while maintaining a high level of professional independence and sound judgment in supporting the growth and integrity of the ETF platform.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Serve as the primary compliance contact for ETF matters in for APAC region, including regulatory engagement with Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEx), SFC and/or other relevant APAC regulators.
  • Manage ETF-related regulatory filings, reports, enquiries and notifications to relevant stock changes and/or other relevant regulatory bodies in HK/APAC.
  • Provide compliance advice to business units on new ETF initiates, product launches, distribution, marketing activities, operational changes and internal/external stakeholders queries, ensuring alignment with local regulatory requirements and group standards.
  • Provide compliance oversight for ETF product lifecycle events, including new listings, index changes, structural amendments, and fund terminations in APAC.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders on compliance considerations relating to benchmark methodologies and disclosures.
  • Serve as ETF Compliance subject matter expert for APAC, leading the Compliance Teams to provide compliance advice to the business and oversee the due-diligence framework for on authorized participants (APs), market makers, custodians, administrators, and other ETF‑related outsourced service providers, ensuring appropriate controls, governance, and regulatory expectations are met.
  • Provide compliance guidance on ETF-related market structure matters, including trading halts, liquidity support mechanisms, creation/redemption processes, and secondary market activity, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Support governance over AP/market maker interactions, liquidity arrangements, and secondary‑market conduct from a regulatory compliance perspective.
  • Monitor ETF-related market trends and regulatory developments across Hong Kong and the APAC region, and deliver training on updates to laws, guidelines, and regulatory requirements, if appropriate.
  • Lead the communication, interpretation, and implementation of regulatory changes affecting ETF offerings, distribution, and operational processes
  • Develop, establish and maintain ETF- relevant compliance policies and procedures to ensure business operations and practice are consistent with regulatory requirements and group policies.
  • Provide updates and reports on relevant compliance matters to Global Compliance, board and management committees on ETF compliance matters.
  • Support Head of Compliance, Greater China ex Taiwan, in maintaining an effective, risk-based compliance framework.
  • Undertake compliance responsibilities beyond ETF coverage, as directed by the by Head of Compliance, Greater China ex Taiwan or Regional Head of Compliance, APAC, to support broader Compliance team needs.
  • Participate in ad-hoc compliance initiatives, and regional / global compliance projects and other compliance duties as assigned.

Requirement for the Role:

  • Degree in Accounting/Finance/Law or related disciplines
  • Minimum of 8-10 years relevant compliance experience in the financial services industry, with strong exposure to ETFs and/or asset management.
  • Strong working knowledge of SFC regulations, Hong Kong Listing Rules, and ETF‑related regulatory frameworks across APAC markets.
  • Experience in advising on ETF product lifecycle events, distribution requirements, market structure, and AP/MM governance preferred.
  • Prior experience interacting with regulators (e.g., SFC, HKEX) and industry bodies is advantageous.

Skills / Other Personal Attributes Required:

  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, with excellent communication proficiency in both English and Chinese.
  • Solid understanding of regulatory requirements and strong ETF knowledge, including creation/redemption processes, liquidity dynamics, and market‑making activities
  • Strong prioritization and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing demands effectively.
  • High level of integrity, detail oriented and commitment to professional ethics.
  • Ability to work independently while providing guidance and coaching to team members.
  • Proven capability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment.
