At CommBank, Risk Management is an independent function that ensures the Group operates within its risk appetite by providing expert oversight, challenge, and approval of key decisions. Our Technology and Operations (Tech & Ops) Risk team plays a critical role in delivering Line 2 Operational Risk and Compliance (OR&C) support across Technology, the Chief Operations Office (COO), and Supplier Support Units. Within this, the COO Line 2 Risk & Compliance team provides independent OR&C advice, assurance, and decision approvals across the COO portfolio to foster a strong control environment and compliance culture.

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Manager, Operational Risk to join our team. This role will focus on providing risk advisory and assurance support to our Retail Operations business and CBA India Transition Framework. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in financial services, particularly in retail banking, non-financial risk management and possess strong stakeholder management and business writing skills.
Key responsibilities for this role includes:
Provide Line 2 operational risk advice, review, and challenge to support safe delivery of business objectives.
Advise on change initiatives and help stakeholders manage risk effectively through transformation.
Deliver thematic insights and guidance on current and emerging risks across the COO portfolio.
Contribute to governance and reporting activities, including NFRC, risk forums, and senior management updates.
Drive implementation and continuous improvement of the Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF) and Compliance Management Framework (CMF).
Act as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, offering proactive risk guidance to business stakeholders.
Lead and contribute to Line 2 reviews and deep dives.
Provide timely insights on change risk impacts and support mitigation strategies.
Represent Line 2 Risk in stakeholder engagements and challenge constructively at all levels.
We’re interested in hearing from people who have:
Strong experience in non-financial risk management within financial services (operational risk preferred).
Expertise in Change Management Risk (including experience with AI-related risk) is highly desirable.
Ability to interpret risk data to identify trends, themes, and areas of concern.
Excellent communication skills — written, verbal, and data storytelling.
Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to act as a trusted yet independent partner.
A curious, humble mindset with a passion for learning and staying ahead of external trends.
Ability to work autonomously while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
