Job Description Summary

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Manager with expertise in algorithmic trading risk and controls to join the Chief Controls Office. This is a pivotal role, taking a leading position in enhancing the Algo trading risk and control environment supporting the Global Markets business. You’ll drive and embed enhancements across systems and controls, governance, management information (MI), and operational risk management, ensuring alignment with internal risk appetite and meeting regulatory expectations.

WORKING PATTERN:

Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites shown above.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You’ll provide independent oversight and challenge of algorithmic trading activities, ensuring robust governance and effective controls are in place. This role combines real-time monitoring, risk management, and continuous improvement to strengthen operational resilience and regulatory compliance across electronic trading platforms.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Real-Time Monitoring

  • Provide independent real-time monitoring of algorithmic trading, including responding to alerts and invoking kill functionality where required.

  • Deliver effective challenge to Trading colleagues and raise concerns promptly.

  • Respond to operational and regulatory issues in a timely manner and initiate remedial action where necessary.

  • Report any trading activity that may not align with firm policies or regulatory obligations to senior colleagues and partners.

  • Ensure alerting processes across all algorithms are timely, complete, and accurate.

Risk Management & Control Framework Enhancement

  • Provide independent review and challenge of the change process for new and existing algorithms and platforms, focusing on controls and operational aspects.

  • Lead ongoing calibration of trader and platform limits using data-driven inputs.

  • Take ownership for the Self-Assessment process and produce outputs to meet regulatory requirements.

  • Identify and implement new or enhanced controls based on Self-Assessment findings.

  • Be responsible for and record circuit breaker and kill switch alerts, ensuring effective review and challenge.

  • Maintain classification and governance of models and algorithms through an effective inventory process, ensuring controls remain fit-for-purpose and evolve with market and regulatory changes.

RAID Management & Issue Resolution

  • Ensure enhancement plans are robust, sustainable, and supported by root cause analysis with clear documentation and traceability.

  • Personally drive the closure of high-impact RAID items, including those relating to resource capacity, technology delivery, data quality, and regulatory requirements.

Sustainability & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead changes aligned with business strategy and regulatory expectations.

  • Lead all aspects of implementation of sustainable processes for ongoing review, recalibration, and enhancement of controls, MI, and governance frameworks.

  • Ensure outcomes are embedded into our usual processes with evidence of effectiveness and continuous monitoring.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

To be considered for this role, you’ll need to demonstrate:

Risk & Control Expertise

  • Deep understanding of algorithmic trading risk and control frameworks within Financial Markets.

  • Experience in governance and oversight of electronic trading platforms and models.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practices for algo trading controls.

Data & Technology Skills

  • Ability to use data-driven insights for calibration and control effectiveness.

  • Familiarity with real-time monitoring tools and alerting systems.

Communication & Leadership

  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills across senior levels.

  • Ability to challenge constructively and provide authoritative guidance.
