Who are we hiring?

This leadership role is responsible for the oversight of operational accounting functions, including the monthly close process. This role will review operational financial statements and related account analysis, ensuring that all accounting records are maintained in accordance with GAAP. This role is responsible for oversight of all Corporate costs (for example, legal costs, insurance, aviation, etc.), as well as company payroll and employee benefits accounting, fixed assets, and certain team-related costs (for example, player insurance, team travel, marketing, Training Center costs, etc.). The position will maintain SOX compliance, issue internal reports and support external reporting requirements and deadlines. He/she will provide accounting support to the finance department and complete special projects, as needed. Manages a team of 4 people.

What will you do?

  • Manage and oversee monthly accounting closing process, ensuring timely and accurate closing of Oracle General Ledger. This includes the review and posting of journal entries.
  • Reviewing all Corporate operational financial statements, related account analysis, and related party transactions, ensuring that all accounting records are maintained in accordance with GAAP.
  • Oversee accounting and reconciliation of Corporate costs including legal costs, insurance and aviation. Partner with department heads and business to ensure appropriate and accurate reporting.
  • Review and manage preparation of quarterly SG&A analysis package for SVP Controller.
  • Partner with compensation, payroll and benefits in order to accurately report employee related costs monthly.
  • Review and oversee monthly Fixed Assets subledger close and partner with Technical Accountant to ensure asset categorization and associated useful life is appropriate.
  • Review and manage completion of MSG Sports related SEC reporting schedules for public reporting and financial statement disclosures, deliverables to Tax, Internal Audit and External Audit.
  • Effectively manage, motivate, and train assigned staff and provide regular status of work-in-progress responsibilities to the SVP Controller.
  • Evaluate and identify areas of potential exposure and internal control weakness and evaluate and partner with SVP Controller to improve processes and workflows to create efficiencies.
  • Complete special projects in an accurate and timely manner, as assigned. 

What do you need to succeed?

  • CPA License Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Excellent developmental and motivational techniques
  • Strong analytical account analysis skills
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Ability to interact with cross functional groups and executive management
  • Ability to evaluate processes and recommend and implement more efficient practices and procedures
  • In-depth understanding of GAAP accounting and finance issues to critically review financial results, account analysis, and direct certain financial activities within Group and company-wide, as needed

$145,000$165,000 USD
