Senior Loan Accounting & Payment Processing Specialist

Join a detail‑driven finance team where you’ll process loan payments, prepare ACH drafts, monitor banking reports, and support daily balancing activities. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys accuracy, organization, and keeping financial operations running smoothly.

This job is primarily responsible for loan accounting functions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, controlling daily and monthly activity, functioning of the loan accounting system, participation in the development and revisions of automated improvements, and serve as a back-up for daily payment receipt transactions. Additionally, this role will have consistent interaction with loan investors and support various functions of the assigned department(s).

In this job, you will:

  • Control daily loan accounting transactions; including the review of cash balancing, escrow analyses, field servicing payment and customer statements.
  • Monitor loan accounting system and resolve issues that arise related to the functions.
  • Reviews and approves accounting transactions and related reports; independently identify problems; troubleshoots, researches, and analyzes problems to resolve or recommend resolution.
  • Manages issues related to investor reported inconsistencies (e.g. works with investors directly on payment issues, reporting inconsistencies, etc.).
  • Participate in definition, testing, and implementation of automated functions related to loan accounting.
  • Mentor and assist with staff training.
  • Assist with loan payment processing responsibilities as needed.
  • Maintain understanding of and adhere to SOX compliance procedures and consistently perform control activities accurately and completely.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Here’s what you’ll need to be considered:

Education

Required – Associate's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

Preferred – Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

Experience

Required – 5 years’ experience in loan accounting.

Preferred – Experience in related industry.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of SOX controls and risk management activities.
  • Working knowledge of the theory and practice of loan accounting (e.g. amortization, payment application, rate changes, curtailments, payment restrictions, tax reporting, escrow).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; strong use of database and spreadsheet applications (Excel).
  • Knowledge of loan accounting software programs.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, especially as related to transaction processing and loan accounting.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with ability to remain flexible to changing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand, document and communicate accounting processes.
  • Ability to work effectively both autonomously and within a team environment.

Physical Demands & Requirements

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Hearing.  Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.  Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.

The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

The physical environment requires the employee to work inside where there are limited extremes to heat and/or cold; moderate noise; a normal office environment.

Up to 15% travel within supported region(s).

The expected base pay range for this role is:

$53,293.00 - $65,244.00

Actual pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including work location, job-related knowledge, skills and relevant experience for the job. Pay amount does not guarantee employment for any particular period of time.
