A.P. MOLLER - MAERSK

Senior LNG Trader

Denmark, Copenhagen, 2100 Full time
Senior LNG Trader will be responsible of LNG supplies for Maersk's dual-fuel LNG-powered container vessels globally. In this role, the Trader will trade physical LNG and Bio-LNG cargoes as well as develop and execute hedging and trading strategies. The person will manage relationships with key suppliers globally and oversee contract management and related administrative tasks. Senior LNG trader will ensure appropriate commercial execution, risk management, and regulatory compliance including the optimisation of fossil LNG and bio-LNG positions.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior LNG Trader to join the LNG Trading team within Maersk Energy Markets. In this role, you will be responsible for securing LNG and bioLNG supplies for Maersk’s growing fleet of dualfuel LNGpowered container vessels and for managing the associated commercial and market risks.

About Maersk Energy Markets

Maersk Energy Markets serves as the sourcing arm of Maersk, handling the supply, storage, purchase, and delivery of fuel for our global fleet. In 2024, we managed more than 12 million metric tons of fuel, with Maersk as our primary customer.

Fuel is one of the largest operating expenses for Maersk, and Energy Markets focuses on optimising total cost through blending, tolling, logistics, and market optimisation. We are part of the broader Maersk Energy Transition organisation and consist of approximately 135 colleagues across key locations including Copenhagen, Geneva, New York, and Singapore.

Why now? Maersk has ordered a large fleet of dualfuel LNGpowered container vessels in response to an increasingly complex regulatory landscape, including FuelEU Maritime, EU ETS, RED III, and IMO regulations.

  • The first LNGpowered vessels will enter operation in Q2 2027, with a second and larger wave arriving from late 2027 through 2028

  • This expansion significantly increases LNG volumes, financial exposure, and market risk

  • The trading desk’s scope is expanding to include fossil LNG, bioLNG, and related products across global markets

Additional senior trading capacity is therefore required to ensure strong commercial execution, robust risk management, and continued regulatory compliance while optimising LNG and bioLNG positions.

Key Responsibilities

As Senior LNG Trader, you will:

  • Trade and source physical LNG and bioLNG cargoes globally (FOB, CIF, DAP / DES)

  • Develop and execute LNG trading and hedging strategies aligned with fleet demand and risk appetite

  • Manage and grow relationships with key LNG and bioLNG suppliers worldwide

  • Support optimisation of LNG products, logistics flows, and supply chains

  • Oversee contract negotiation, execution, and lifecycle management

  • Collaborate closely with Energy Markets colleagues across Europe, the Americas, and Asia to identify and develop new commercial opportunities

  • Contribute to effective risk management, regulatory compliance, and reporting

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who brings both deep market expertise and a collaborative mindset:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in physical LNG trading (smallscale LNG experience is a plus)

  • Solid understanding of LNG bunkering operations and associated supply contracts

  • Strong knowledge of European energy markets and global LNG dynamics

  • Experience or interest in bioLNG, methanol, or other alternative fuels is an advantage

  • Analytical, detailoriented, and comfortable operating in a fastmoving, 24/7 trading environment

  • Proven ability to work effectively across cultures and geographies

  • Fluency in English, with strong stakeholder management and communication skills
