We are seeking a talented individual to join our Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs team at Marsh McLennan. This role will be based in the Kuala Lumpur office. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide expert legal analysis and counsel on a variety of issues including corporate, commercial, M&A, insurance, and consulting matters. You will advise on and negotiate contracts with clients and vendors across Singapore and Malaysia, collaborate with regional colleagues to address local legal and regulatory challenges, and develop contract strategies and templates for the region. You will also engage with external counsel on complex issues and participate in leadership committees.
We will count on you to:
Provide analysis and counsel on corporate, commercial, M&A, insurance, reinsurance, and consulting legal matters
Advise on and negotiate contractual arrangements with clients, vendors, and third parties in Singapore and Malaysia
Collaborate with in-country LCPA colleagues to identify legal and regulatory issues and develop strategies
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to procurement, confidentiality, employment, leases, and software licenses
Provide training on legal matters such as contracting
Develop contract strategies and templates for regional use
Assist senior lawyers on complex issues and manage external counsel engagements
Review regulations and policies and communicate their applicability to colleagues
Develop procedures, processes, and policies to support the LCPA function
Participate actively in executive, leadership, and operating committees
What you need to have:
Recognised legal qualifications in Malaysia and/or Singapore
Minimum 8 years post-qualification experience in a law firm or relevant in-house role
Experience in regulatory advisory work, preferably in insurance or financial services sectors
Experience handling contract reviews, drafting, and negotiation
Regional exposure preferred
Excellent drafting and organisational skills
Ability to analyse complex legal problems quickly and concisely without direct supervision
Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment in ambiguous situations
Confidence and ability to engage with senior stakeholders
