About the Role:
We’re looking for a Permanent Senior Legal Counsel to join Domain’s Commercial Legal Team. This role is central to ensuring the business operates in a legally sound and commercially practical way, with a strong focus on commercial disputes, regulatory matters, IP protection, litigation and advisory work across digital products and data.
As Domain continues to grow within the broader CoStar Group, you’ll partner closely with senior leaders across the business and act as a trusted adviser on both day-to-day matters and complex strategic issues. This is an amazing opportunity to join us, post acquisition by CoStar Group, as we embark on a period of significant growth where this role will be pivotal
You’ll act as a legal business partner to teams across Domain, with responsibility for:
Initiating claims and managing commercial disputes, including negotiations to support positive dispute resolution.
Responding to regulatory investigations and engaging directly with regulators where required.
Enforcing Domain’s IP rights across products and brands.
Proactively taking action against third parties engaging in misleading or deceptive conduct or IP infringement.
Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial contracts—including services agreements, software agreements, licences and technology-related contracts.
Advising on contract risks, commercial terms and practical pathways that align with business objectives.
Working closely with product teams to review new products or new data-use proposals before launch.
Advising on misleading and deceptive conduct in marketing collateral.
Advising on privacy laws, data usage rights, and compliance considerations for digital products.
Identifying legal risks in commercial proposals and partnering with the business to find compliant, commercial solutions.
Providing advice that is both technically sound and pragmatic.
Operating confidently in ambiguity and supporting the business to deliver on key strategies.
Contributing to a strong legal culture and acting as an ambassador for the Legal Team across the organisation.
6–10 years PQE gained at a reputable law firm, ideally within a Litigation or Disputes team.
Experience in digital, technology or data-driven environments (in-house or secondment experience is beneficial but not essential).
Strong experience managing disputes, including IP, consumer law and misleading/deceptive conduct matters.
Experience managing disputes before courts, tribunals and regulators in addition to managing external law firms.
Experience dealing with regulators and responding to regulatory investigations.
Experience reviewing and advising on digital product launches, focusing on data usage, privacy and misleading and deceptive conduct.
Strong communicator who can influence and partner effectively across the business.
Capable of managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with high volumes of live matters.
Thrives in a small, hands-on legal team—comfortable rolling up your sleeves and taking on varied tasks as needed.
Collaborative, adaptable and commercially minded.
Strong commercial acumen and a business focused mind.
Strong capability across disputes, consumer law, privacy, contract law and intellectual property.
Ability to identify and assess risks and provide practical, business-focused advice.
High attention to detail and a proactive “get-up-and-go” approach.
Ability to run matters independently while looping in the Head of Legal (Commercial) or the CLO as needed.
Law degree (LLB or JD).
Admitted to practise in Australia with a current practising certificate.
