Clayton Utz

Senior Legal AI Manager

Sydney Full time

About Clayton Utz

Clayton Utz is one of Australia's leading law firms, known for its commitment to excellence, innovation, and client service. As the legal industry undergoes a period of rapid technological transformation, we are investing in the people and capabilities needed to ensure our firm remains at the forefront of legal AI adoption and client-facing innovation.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Legal AI Manager to lead the adoption and ongoing product management of Harvey AI  and future legal technology  across the firm. Working directly with legal practices and champion groups, you will support the Head of Legal Technology and Transformation to position Clayton Utz at the forefront of AI-enabled legal service delivery in the Australian market by creating scalable, practice-specific AI assets that drive measurable value for lawyers and clients alike.

This is a newly created, high-impact position that sits at the intersection of legal practice, technology, and innovation. You will own the AI asset layer of the firm's Harvey adoption program, working in closely with the Legal Technology and Transformation team and the AI champions.

You will be the interface between the firm's lawyers and the Harvey team, driving the creation and curation of legal assets, including workflows, playbooks, and prompts and working closely with practice group champions to embed AI capability into day-to-day legal work in a way that reduces complexity and maximises value for users.

This is not a software rollout or platform administration role.  You will act as an internal product leader who thinks beyond tool adoption and instead builds a portfolio of AI-enabled legal solutions, turning repeatable legal tasks into reliable, high-quality, technology-augmented processes that reshape how the firm delivers legal services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Harvey / Legal technology product management & adoption: Execute the firm-wide Harvey adoption strategy, managing feature rollouts, prioritising development based on practice group needs, and tracking value realisation — time saved, quality uplift, and client impact — to demonstrate return on investment to firm leadership.

  • Scalable AI asset development & governance: Create the processes to design, build, test, and maintain legal assets within Harvey using workflows, playbooks, custom prompts, and knowledge integrations, ensuring alignment with the firm's quality and risk standards. Assist in identifying the highest-value, most repeatable legal tasks and systematically build scalable AI solutions to address them.

  • Champion network leadership: Support a network of AI Champions across practice groups, equipping them to create assets, drive adoption, and surface real-time feedback into the product roadmap.

  • Stakeholder engagement & strategic roadmap: Engage with partners and lawyers to identify use cases, gather requirements, and shape the Harvey product roadmap. Monitor competitor firms, ALSPs, and in-house developments to keep the firm's AI offering commercially competitive.

  • Training, enablement & culture change: Support the delivery of AI training programs, working with technology training teams to create guidance materials and internal communications that build AI literacy and confidence at all levels of the firm.

  • Vendor partnership & ecosystem development: Act as the firm's point of contact with Harvey product teams, providing structured product feedback, participating in beta programs, and positioning Clayton Utz as a strategic partner — leveraging the relationship to influence product direction.

  • Client-facing innovation & new service models: Identify opportunities to extend AI capabilities to client service delivery — including through Harvey Shared Spaces and bespoke solutions — working with practice groups and business development to differentiate Clayton Utz's offering to market.

About You

Our ideal candidate will having the following:

  • Admitted or qualified to practice as a legal practitioner in an Australian jurisdiction (current practicing certificate desirable but not required)

  • Extensive experience in change management, transformation, and/or innovation within a legal technology or transformation team at a top-tier or large commercial law firm

  • Demonstrated direct experience in the evaluation, implementation, and management of legal AI and legal technology platforms

  • Hands-on experience with AI-powered legal technology platforms (Harvey AI experience strongly desirable) and a proven ability to manage a technology product lifecycle in a professional services environment

  • Strong understanding of legal workflows, practice group structures, and commercial realities, with the ability to translate practitioner needs into effective AI solutions

  • Experience designing and delivering change management and adoption programs within a law firm, with familiarity with information security, data privacy, and responsible AI principles

  • Credibility and influence with senior stakeholders, including partners and practice group leaders, with the ability to communicate AI value in terms that resonate with legal practitioners

  • A natural collaborator who builds strong cross-functional relationships and leads through influence rather than authority

  • Intellectually curious, resilient, and comfortable in ambiguity — hungry to build something transformative, not simply administer a platform.
