About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Lead Credit Risk & Approval Officer to join the Corporate & Investment Banking Risk team, with a primary focus on Asset Backed Securities (ABS). This role is responsible for the review, challenge, and approval of new transactions, as well as ongoing portfolio management, and risk surveillance. This role will report to the Senior Credit Officer for ABS.
The Asset Backed Securities group provides funding and capital markets services to companies seeking asset backed finance solutions, across consumer and commercial asset classes.
In this role, you will:
- Conduct comprehensive credit risk analysis on securitized asset transactions (warehouse and term), spanning diverse asset classes such as auto, consumer loans, credit cards, equipment, fleet/rental vehicles, aircraft, railcar, containers, and other emerging asset types.
- Review and evaluate new credit requests, modifications, and amendments, providing well-supported recommendations and decisions.
- Partner with originators and portfolio managers to monitor transaction performance and portfolio-level metrics, ensuring proactive risk management.
- Stay current on market trends, regulatory changes, and macroeconomic factors impacting securitized products, integrating insights into credit assessments.
- Identify and escalate emerging credit risks and concerns to senior leadership in a timely manner.
- Maintain a strong understanding of enterprise and business line credit policies, ensuring full compliance with internal standards and procedures.
- Deliver timely and accurate credit approvals, portfolio reporting, and risk rating updates.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to analyze new products and assess associated risks.
- Participate in due diligence activities, including management meetings, site visits, and calls.
- Prepare and present detailed portfolio and sector-specific analyses to senior management and credit committees.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external clients, representing the organization with professionalism and integrity.
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of Credit Risk & Approval experience or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
- A BS/BA degree or higher in accounting, finance, or economics
- Proven knowledge of asset backed securities, asset-based finance, non-recourse lending, private credit, and related industries.
- Strong credit and financial analysis skills
- Understanding of credit risk philosophy and Wells Fargo’s credit culture
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Confirmed ability to be a thought leader in a large matrix organization.
- Consistent success in making sound business and credit decisions.
- Demonstrated success making deals and building relationships.
