Position

The Alternative Fixed Income team focuses on delivering attractive risk-adjusted returns, by investing in less traditional and/or illiquid assets within the Fixed Income universe. The team covers a broad spectrum of investment opportunities globally and manages a range of investment funds for its clients, such as Asset Backed Securities, Residential Mortgages, Impact loans with Government/ECA Guarantees, Insured Credit, Infrastructure debt, loans to Private Equity funds, Corporate Private Placements and Direct Lending to European SME & Midcap companies. The ~40FTE investment team manages around €65bln in assets, predominantly for external clients, such as pension funds, insurance companies, banks and wholesalers. The investment team is based in Amsterdam/Schiphol and London.   

The European Direct Lending team comprises of 12 FTE and focuses on senior, unitranche and subordinated loans to Dutch and European SME & Midcap companies. There are currently >200 loans in our portfolios and we expect our Direct Lending portfolio to grow significantly as we launch additional Direct Lending funds with Dutch and European focus. We are therefore expanding the investment team by an experienced professional with a proven track record in the restructuring and recovery of senior, unitranche and subordinated loans.

Your role

Reporting into the Head of Alternative Fixed Income, you will:

  • be assessing distressed loan situations and design restructuring or recovery strategies. And you will manage complex bilateral or narrowly syndicated transactions, including turnaround management for delinquent loans and periodic reviews of those loans.
  • collaborate with internal teams and external parties such as banks, private equity firms, law firms and advisors and participate in deal teams.
  • provide input on the financing structures and loan documentation and support the drafting process as part of the Deal team, in close collaboration with the Legal team.
  • be an eligible member of the Investment Committee for our Direct Lending funds.
  • be a co-Portfolio Manager on the Direct Lending funds. In this capacity you will work with the other Investment Managers on the Funds and help steering the portfolio composition and ensure the portfolio is achieving appropriate risk-return outcomes, while maintain compliance with the fund guidelines.
  • contribute to commercial activities related to the Direct Lending funds, including preparing client presentations and helping further develop our Direct Lending proposition for 3rd party clients.
  • Depending on your profile, you might also conduct and/or coordinate in-depth financial and legal analysis, prepare credit proposals, and advise stakeholders for new investments opportunities to be presented to the Investment Committee.

Your profile

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Law or related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in the Netherlands in restructuring/non-performing loan management.
  • Deep/strong knowledge of credit re-structuring, risk analysis, and insolvency/legal aspects.
  • Experience in negotiating the best outcome as the sole/majority lender to the company.
  • Strong analytical skills and conceptual thinking.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills; fluent in Dutch and English.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with resilience and ability to manage complex situations.
  • DSI certification or willingness to register and comply with ESMA guidelines.
