Purpose

The Senior Information Technology Manager, manages and performs all information technology services, including planning, organizing, directing, and staffing, in support of academic, administrative, and research requirements for the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at the University of Texas at Austin. The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing all aspects of planning, execution, and monitoring of all ASE IT operations.  Establish quality goals and metrics for the ASE IT team.  Measure performance and customer satisfaction to foster continuous improvement.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership and oversight for the full spectrum of IT services for ASE, which includes networking infrastructure, servers, desktop and mobile devices, cloud services, security, access controls, web infrastructure, and application support.
  • Lead project teams to meet IT needs of all users within the ASE department, which includes support for a large complex network of Windows, macOS, and Linux computers. Ensure that customers’ expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Responsible for services for faculty, staff, and students, including documentation, consulting, and technical assistance.
  • Responsible for identifying and implementing new best practices in use of IT within the department. Develop new partnerships both internal and external to the university.
  • Responsible for budget/procurement decisions regarding computing operations. Involved with facilitating software licensing for licensed users within the department and throughout the School of Engineering.
  • Responsible for making recommendations to director, department chair, and faculty IT committee regarding computing roles, needs, direction and operations.
  • Serve as an ASE representative and liaison to higher level IT organizations within the UT-IT community, including UT-ITS, the Cockrell School IT group, and the UT Information Security Office. Coordination, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the annual information security risk assessment security compliance for the ASE department.
  • Direct supervision of several full-time staff and part-time student employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience overseeing one or more information technology functions.
  • Demonstrated experience in IT customer service and/or help desk environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft active directory services.
  • Experience with Windows, Linux and macOS end-point management tools.
  • Experience installing and supporting hardware, software and networked systems in a multi-protocol environment
  • Working knowledge of networking protocols and standards
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under pressure of tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a team member and take initiative to work independently.
  • Demonstrated effective written and communication skills.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with systems and applications commonly used at UT Austin.
  • Knowledge of UT Austin information technology security policies and procedures.
  • Experience with MECM, jamf, orcharhino.
  • Familiarity with CUI and ITAR data classifications.

Salary Range

$85,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

Work Shift

  • Standard work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 
  • Work outside of normal business hours may be required on an occasional basis during peak periods.
