About the Opportunity

With a strong order book and a diverse, exciting portfolio of projects across the UK and internationally, we need to expand our team of environmental specialists across multiple disciplines required to deliver a project lifecycle—from new build and operations through to decommissioning and site end use. We are looking for a Senior Hydrogeologist to support our ongoing new-build, contaminated land and decommissioning projects across our environment, energy and defence businesses. In this role, you will work closely with colleagues to input into and design site investigations, data interpretation, risk assessments, and remediation and ground water management design, as well as supporting hydrogeological numerical modelling. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your technical skills and progress in a highly regulated and dynamic field.
We offer flexible working arrangements (a mix of office-based and home working). This role can be based in Harwell, Bristol, Rotherham, Cumbria or Birchwood.
Key Responsibilities:
Participate in site investigation design and interpretation (focussed on hydrogeological investigations to support a range of project scales and site end uses). Provide supervision and advise on hydrogeological testing and monitoring strategies
Data Analysis & Reporting: Assist in interpreting field and laboratory results, contributing to conceptual site models (CSMs) and preliminary ground water risk assessments. Work with numerical modellers to develop site and regional scale hydrogeological models for large scale and long term contaminant migration studies and to support the design of complex groundwater management and control projects.
Input into site and regional scale flood risk assessments.
Collaboration: Work alongside junior and senior consultants and project managers and meeting deadlines.
Regulatory Awareness: Learn and apply relevant UK environmental legislation, guidance, and codes of practice.
Health & Safety Compliance: Adhere to strict HSE requirements, both on-site and in office environments, ensuring you and your colleagues maintain safe working conditions.
Professional Development: Seek opportunities to broaden your technical knowledge (through project work, training, and mentoring), and actively engage in personal development plans.
Here's What You'll Need:
Below are the qualifications and experience that we’re seeking in applicants. We understand that not everyone will meet every single requirement, so if you believe you have most of the relevant experience and strong potential to succeed in this role, we’d love to hear from you.
Education: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Geoscience, or a related discipline. A Master’s degree is advantageous but not essential.
Early Career Experience: At least 5 years early career experience, already at the Senior professional grade or ready to take the leap.
Technical Aptitude: Full understanding of hydrogeological assessments and site characterisation techniques (e.g. BS22282). Understanding of site investigation techniques, risk assessment principles, and relevant environmental legislation, with a willingness to learn quickly.
Teamwork & Communication: Ability to work effectively in a team setting, following guidance from more experienced colleagues and able to provide advice to more junior colleagues, with good written and verbal communication skills.
Analytical Skills: Comfortable handling data, using basic software tools (e.g., Excel, GIS), and producing clear, concise reports under supervision.
Motivation & Growth Mindset: Keen interest in developing a career in land quality and an enthusiasm for continuous learning, including willingness to travel to different project sites.
Other: A valid UK driving licence (or ability to obtain one in the near future) is beneficial.
