Role Overview: Senior HR Business Partner 

Richmond, VA | In office, Monday-Friday 

CoStar Group is seeking an experienced Senior HR Business Partner (HRBP) to join our Human Resources team and be based out of our Richmond, VA HQ campus. This role partners closely with senior leaders and people managers across the organization to design and deliver people strategies that enable business growth, strengthen leadership capability, and sustain a high-performance culture. 

As a trusted advisor, the Senior HRBP will bring a strong understanding of the business, data-driven insights, and deep HR expertise to influence decisions across talent, performance, engagement, organizational design, and risk management. The role requires the ability to think strategically while also executing effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth technology environment. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Serve as a strategic HR advisor and thought partner to senior leaders and department heads, aligning people strategies with business priorities. 

  • Develop a deep understanding of the business strategy and operating model to proactively advise leaders on workforce planning, retention, succession, and career development. 

  • Use employee data and insights (e.g., engagement surveys, performance trends, attrition metrics) to guide leadership discussions and inform actionable people strategies. 

  • Coach and support people managers to strengthen leadership capability, drive engagement, and build high-performing, inclusive teams. 

  • Anticipate and assess organizational needs across areas such as organizational design, staffing, performance management, succession planning, and change management. 

  • Partner closely with Centers of Excellence (Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, HR Operations, Employee Relations, Learning & Development) to deliver integrated HR solutions. 

  • Contribute and influence initiatives that support the evolution of a best-in-class HR function in a scaling organization. 

  • Mitigate and resolve complex employee relations matters, ensuring thoughtful risk assessment, sound judgment, and alignment with company policy and employment law. 

  • Develop and deliver effective people-related communication strategies that enhance transparency and engagement. 

  • Support and/or lead HR projects including process improvement initiatives, training facilitation, and change enablement efforts. 

  • Contribute to mid-year and year-end performance review cycles, ensuring consistency, compliance, and manager effectiveness. 

 

Basic Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree required from an accredited, not-for-profit, in-person college/university. 

  • A track record of commitment to prior employers. 

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive HR experience in a strategic HR Business Partner or similar advisory role, or 6+ years with a Master’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, or a related field. 

  • Demonstrated expertise across core HR disciplines, including employee relations, talent development, workforce planning, compensation planning, and organizational design. 

  • Proven ability to influence and advise senior leaders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. 

  • Experience using data and metrics to assess trends, inform recommendations, and drive outcomes. 

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity. 

  • Demonstrated discretion and ability to maintain strict confidentiality. 

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to operate independently. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 

  • Experience working with HRIS platforms (e.g. Workday). 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • HR experience within a technology, SaaS, or high-growth corporate environment. 

  • Experience supporting leaders in complex, multi-functional organizations. 

  • Hands-on experience with Workday HRIS. 

  • Knowledge and experience managing the ADA accommodation process and leave programs, including FMLA, state, and medical leaves. 

  • Experience supporting performance management cycles (mid-year and year-end). 

  • Exposure to or interest in AI-enabled HR tools or technologies.
