We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Geological Advisor – Business Development to join our team in Calgary. This role is ideal for an experienced geoscience professional who combines strong technical capability with industry insight and strategic thinking. The successful candidate will play a key role in evaluating business opportunities and helping drive value creation through acquisition, divestment, and other business development initiatives. The position requires a strong understanding of subsurface geology of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin, and upstream business drivers, along with the ability to communicate technical findings clearly to multidisciplinary teams and senior leadership. The ideal candidate is technically strong, industry aware, highly collaborative, and applies strategic decision-making skills. They are comfortable moving between detailed geological interpretation and high-level business evaluation, and they bring sound judgment, curiosity, and a practical approach to opportunity assessment.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct regional to asset-level geological assessments, including play fairway analysis, reservoir characterization, mapping, and risk evaluation.
Integrate geological, geophysical, and petrophysical interpretations with engineering, land, and economic data to support timely business decisions.
Contribute to technical due diligence for acquisitions, divestments, farm-ins, and other strategic opportunities.
Prepare clear, concise technical presentations and recommendations for senior leadership review.
Work closely and collaboratively with our cross-functional business development team that also includes engineering, petrophysical, data management, land, reserve, and commercial disciplines.
Support our operational groups to identify value enhancement opportunities within existing assets.
Maintain awareness of industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities in core operating areas.
Represent the company at external industry, technical, and stakeholder engagements as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Geology
Professionally registered with APEGA
15+ years of industry experience, with a strong background in upstream oil and gas geology
Prior experience in business development would be considered a strong asset.
Sound knowledge of the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin with good understanding of conventional and thermal plays would be considered an asset
Demonstrated ability to assess and effectively articulate geological risk and uncertainty in evaluations
Highly developed technical skills in mapping, integration of subsurface data, and interpretation.
Strong communication and presentation skills, with ability to distill complex technical work into simple conclusions that aid in efficient decision making
Proven track record of building trust with multidisciplinary teams and organizational groups
