Make a real impact in creating a safer, more inclusive university community.
Macquarie University is seeking a highly skilled Senior Gender-based Violence Caseworker to lead trauma-informed responses and case management for disclosures and formal reports of gender-based violence. This is a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff.
About the Role
A newly created role, you will manage complex cases with professionalism and empathy, providing person-centred support and conducting risk assessments. The role involves preliminary assessments, preparing detailed reports for senior stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence 2025.
Collaboration is key—you’ll work closely with internal teams and external agencies to develop new processes to support students and staff, and deliver coordinated, timely, and effective responses to students and staff impacted by Gender-based Violence.
What You’ll Be Doing
Case Management: Receive, respond to, assess, and manage Disclosures and Formal Reports of Gender-based Violence from students, staff, and members of the public concerning a member of the University Community. Lead the delivery of trauma-informed case management, psychosocial care planning, and procedural support to ensure timely, effective, and coordinated responses.
Risk Assessment: Conduct gender-based violence risk assessments and develop safety plans for students and staff.
Investigations: Lead preliminary assessments into formal reports, ensuring procedural fairness and confidentiality, and prepare detailed reports for decision-makers.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams (Student Wellbeing, HR,, Student Integrity and Compliance, Campus Security, Legal) and external agencies (police, health, community services) to ensure coordinated responses.
Reporting & Analysis: Maintain accurate case records, analyse trends, and prepare reports for the University Executive and external bodies.
Continuous Improvement: Identify gaps, recommend improvements, and participate in sector-wide networks to align with emerging best practices.
About You
You’ll bring expertise and experience in working with diverse cohorts and supporting those affected by gender-based violence. You will have a strong ability to analyse complex issues and develop evidence-based solutions, paired with exceptional problem-solving skills. Building and maintaining effective partnerships—both within the university and with external agencies such as police, legal, health, and community services—will be central to your success. In this role, sound judgment and ethical decision-making are critical, particularly when navigating high-pressure, sensitive, or legally complex situations. Just as important are your interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to engage with empathy and sensitivity with individuals affected by trauma, while confidently influencing and advising senior stakeholders. As this is a new role which will be designing and implementing new processes and procedures across multiple teams, you will thrive working in ambiguity, design processes iteratively and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
