Job Description:

As a Senior Gear Systems Engineer for Allison Transmission PCoE team, you will be supporting the gear design and development associated with new transmissions and transmission variants across all end markets. In this role, you will conduct transmission level modeling, analysis and simulation of new and in-production transmission systems, contributing to engineering decisions related to performance, manufacturability, and reliability of gear systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct support for gear design and analysis, with a system-level understanding of interactions with adjacent mechanical components such as shafts, housings, bearings, splines, and carriers
  • Construction and maintenance of CAE models to evaluate durability, performance, and efficiency, primarily in SMT Masta 
  • Collaborate within the PCoE team, to provide technical support on CAE gear systems
  • Develop, maintain and expand Masta model validation plans according to the level of model fidelity
  • Support DFMEA and BP activities to guide product design and development
  • Perform engineering calculations: component loading, stress, and life calculations for general sizing efforts 
  • When needed/requested, collaborate with product engineering in the resolution of manufacturing deviations (for both, production and prototype/supplier levels) 
  • Participate on conventional powertrain R&D activities in support of Technology Information Lifecycle and new gear/spline technology/materials/processes
  • Contribute to the development of internal capabilities by supporting the creation of tools, guidelines, and design/analysis standards that advance gear design and analysis practices across the organization
  • Utilizes strong communication and presentation skills to engage effectively with stakeholders, ensuring customer needs are understood and addressed through practical and mutually beneficial engineering solutions

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Masters or PHD degree is preferred
  • Excellent oral and written (e.g. presentations) communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and find solutions to complex technical challenges
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple different programs simultaneously
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in gear systems design analysis and CAE simulation or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience modelling in SMT Masta, Romax or KISSsoft or comparable
  • Independent working level knowledge on gear design, manufacturing processes, heat treatments and surface/tooth strengthen processes.  
  • Familiar with 3D CAD tools (preferably Siemens NX) and GD&T 
  • Ability to read, interpret and create detail drawings and blueprints
