Senior Full Stack Software Engineer (React/Node.js)

Our Software Engineering team at Northwestern Mutual is responsible for developing and enhancing systems that enable the company to fulfill its financial commitments to its customers, employees, and field representatives.  These systems are financial in nature, centered on risk products, and based on the professional knowledge of the actuary. The applications vary in scope, are generally mathematical in nature, and require collaboration with both technical peers and business experts.  The assignment will be a full stack engineer on an agile team developing a web application to maintain data related to Reinsurance and supported by the Actuarial Software Engineering team. You’ll be part of a team that plays a crucial role in ensuring this company continues to do great things for its customers.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Leverage technical experience to develop, create, and implement a software user interface that meets business needs
• Strive to continually improve our core systems, with a focus on delivering excellence to the business experts who rely on your work
• Work with subject matter experts and technical peers to translate business needs into software engineering projects
• Provide guidance and leadership to less experienced software engineers
• Multiply the talent of your teammates by sharing your experiences and learnings and fostering a positive team focused atmosphere

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of professional experience in a software engineering or application development role
• Experience developing solutions using agile methods, with a focus on client needs
• Capable of communicating well with technical peers and business side experts
• Ability to perform peer reviews on design and resulting code
• Solid understanding of system design patterns and architectural concepts

Technical Skills:

Full Stack developer with:

• Strong working knowledge of React, HTML5, CSS, functional components, hooks, Redux. 
• NodeJS with Javascript, NodeJS with Typescript or Java Spring Boot
• Experience with DevOps and Git.
• Relational and non-relational database knowledge and experience.
• Experience with Postgres and DynamoDB preferred.
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Ability to effectively communicate technical topics to both technical teams and non-technical teams

$102,060.00

Pay Range - End:

$189,540.00

Geographic Specific Pay Structure:

Structure 110:

$112,280.00 USD - $208,520.00 USD

Structure 115:

$117,390.00 USD - $218,010.00 USD
