At Ciena, this role contributes to building and modernising enterprise-grade applications that support secure, scalable, and high-performance networks for customers worldwide. Reporting to the Engineering Manager – Application Development, the position partners closely with cross-functional teams across North America to deliver cloud-enabled solutions that matter.
How you will make an impact:
• Design, build, and maintain web-based and Windows applications using Microsoft .NET technologies
• Modernise legacy applications through migration to Microsoft Azure cloud platforms
• Develop and support application programming interfaces (APIs), web services, and backend components
• Partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into reliable technical solutions
• Contribute to Agile delivery practices, including sprint planning, reviews, and continuous improvement
• Support application stability through on-call participation and proactive issue resolution
The must haves:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
• 7+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong proficiency in C#, .NET Core, VB.NET, Python, Angular, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
• Solid backend development experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Transact-SQL (T-SQL), and Language Integrated Query (LINQ)
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services, including App Services, Functions, Containers, and Storage
• Working knowledge of DevOps practices, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), Git, GitHub, and test-driven development (TDD)
• Demonstrated application of secure coding practices, including static application security testing (SAST) and dynamic application security testing (DAST)
Nice to haves:
• Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
• Familiarity with advanced SQL Server features and performance optimisation
• Experience using front-end frameworks and tools such as Bootstrap, Telerik, or Kendo UI
• Exposure to machine learning technologies or Amazon Web Services (AWS)
• Knowledge of Hardware Security Modules (HSM) and Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) compliance
• Microsoft Azure Developer or DevOps Engineer certification
