Mō te tūranga | About the Role

Join Westpac NZ as a Senior Full Stack Developer in our Product Engineering – Cards and Consumer Finance team. You’ll play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable applications across both front-end and back-end technologies. This is a hands-on technical leadership position, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions that create exceptional digital experiences for our customers. You’ll be responsible for ensuring best practice in API design, coding standards, performance, and security, as well as providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and peers.
 

Ko tō mahi | What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain applications and integration solutions.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, ensuring system stability and participating in after hours support when required.

  • Collaborate with project teams from concept through delivery to ensure solutions meet business and technical requirements.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and peers.

  • Create and maintain documentation throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

  • Implement changes aligned with design specifications and evolving business needs.

  • Analyse recurring issues and lead continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain and refine support procedures to ensure resilience and minimise downtime.

  • Contribute to release and deployment processes, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance.

  • Implement automated testing and ensure high-quality code through code reviews and continuous integration practices.

Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

  • At least 8+ years’ experience across API and Web development.

  • Proficiency with server-side development (Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, IBM MQ).

  • Proficiency with front end development (Javascript, React, Redux).

  • Experience designing and maintaining integrations with a wide variety of applications and APIs.

  • Experience in DevOps such as CI/CD pipelines, containerisation, and deployment automation.

  • Strong knowledge of database schema design, transactions, and queries.

  • Exceptional influencing and communication skills, with the ability to guide individuals toward fast and effective outcomes.

  • Ability to lead agile software delivery with a focus on quality, speed, and alignment to business goals.

  • Strategic thinking, business acumen, and a drive for innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Strong stakeholder relationship skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.

  • Proactive risk management and a commitment to compliance with ethical and organisational standards.

  • Coaching and mentoring skills to build team capability and performance.

  • Customer-focused approach, delivering solutions that achieve measurable outcomes.

  • Strong problem-solving skills using systems thinking and analytical approaches.
