- Identifies emerging issues and trends to inform decision-making.
- Provides advice and guidance to internal stakeholders to mitigate criminal activity, misconduct and other related risks.
- Helps determine business priorities and best sequence for execution of business/group strategy.
- Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.
- Identifies and resolves complex criminal, regulatory and civil investigations.
- Conducts effective interviews with suspects and/or witnesses to obtain all relevant information relating to activity/incident.
- Writes timely, concise reports on incidents and communicates verbally on urgent matters.
- Ensures all incidents/events reported are evaluated, managed, investigated, closed or escalated for further investigation.
- Provides litigation support for civil and criminal proceedings, including court testimony.
- Supports regulatory exams/inquiries and may include direct contact with regulators.
- Provides input into the planning and implementation of operational programs.
- Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
- Provides specialized consulting, analytical and technical support.
- Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
- Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.

Protects the people, assets and information of BMO through forensic investigation services focused on frauds and/or other activity that increases BMO’s legal, regulatory or reputational risk. Contributes to the reduction and prevention of criminal activity by reporting and analyzing incidents for civil and criminal proceedings, providing litigation support, and supporting internal educational efforts. Executes work within BMO policies and procedures, and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Core Accountabilities:
- Independently identifies, analyzes and evaluates potential risks to BMO, including legal, regulatory and reputational risk.
- Identifies perpetrators, method of operation and circumstances, assets for recovery and preserves evidence.
- Collects and analyzes information from various groups and systems to evaluate, investigate and determine required actions.
- Evaluates evidence from multiple perspectives, to formulate theories, draw well-supported conclusions and provide insights and recommendations.
- Traces funds through accounts, transactions and financial institutions to maximize recovery efforts.
- Documents actions taken and information gathered throughout the investigation to maintain case files and develop summaries or reports for internal stakeholders or external parties.
- Manages relations with law enforcement agencies and other financial institutions to collaborate on investigations and recover assets.
- Effectively manages priorities, monitors and tracks performance, and addresses/escalates issues.
- Stays abreast of emerging issues and trends, together with relevant regulations and compliance standards to inform decision-making.
Qualifications:
- Typically between 5 - 7 years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of CPA rules.
- Working knowledge of the criminal justice system, criminal law, and rules of evidence.
- Proficiency in MS Office with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated knowledge of AI enabled tools and applications.
- Significant experience in banking and processes.
- Good working knowledge and experience in accessing banking systems.
- Experience resolving issues of moderate/high complexity or risk.
- Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.

Salaried
The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.
Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
