A DAY IN THE LIFE
Our Senior Forensic Chemist (Environmental Consulting) position can potentially work out of any of these locations… Remote (United States or Canada); Valley Forge, PA; Little Rock, AR. This position supports senior forensic chemistry leadership on environmental forensic investigations. Work includes contaminant fingerprinting, data interpretation, statistical evaluation, and preparation of defensible scientific outputs for clients, attorneys, and technical stakeholders.
As a key member of the Advisory Chemistry Operations team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
Technical and Analytical Responsibilities
Conduct environmental forensic data interpretation for organic and inorganic contaminants including PCBs, PFAS, PAHs, PCDD/Fs, VOCs, SVOCs, petroleum hydrocarbons, and metals.
Develop and apply multivariate statistical analyses and chemometric workflows using R, Python, JMP (SAS), or Matlab.
Evaluate chemical fingerprints, congener patterns, isotopic data, and compositional datasets to support source attribution and environmental fate assessments.
Review environmental analytical data for completeness, correctness, usability, conformance with method requirements, and forensic applicability.
Support litigation, regulatory inquiries, and technical reviews by producing clear, defensible scientific analyses and visualizations.
Consulting and Project Contributions
Assist in developing forensic strategies, investigative plans, and data requirements.
Help prepare technical memoranda, expert report sections, and presentation materials.
Participate in client discussions to explain analytical results, modeling outputs, and interpretations.
Support quality reviews of laboratory data, method summaries, and QA documentation.
Contribute to the preparation of project scopes, proposals, and cost estimates.
Team and Business Engagement
Provide meaningful technical and marketing support during the growth of the company’s Chemistry practice, and assist with identifying, screening, and training new hires in the discipline.
Actively participate in business development and growth initiatives for the environmental forensics practice.
Identify qualified leads and develop successful proposals to establish a book of work.
Attend/support client meetings arranged by BD staff as requested.
Attend business and industry meetings as needed and requested.
Attend at least one (1) educational seminar per quarter to stay abreast of applicable regulatory changes, technological changes, or industrial needs.
Present at least two (2) professional papers at relevant industry conferences/trade shows.
Maintain or exceed external client billability goals with the balance of time dedicated to effective BD efforts. Annualized performance goals will be determined for revenue, net labor multiplier, revenue-generating hours, and others as determined annually.
Typical clients include multinational corporations, retail, industrial and energy companies, as well as legal firms and others who provide support in these areas.
Typical forensic and other consulting projects involve: establishing forensic project objectives with the client, specifying data and related requirements relative to investigative needs, recommending and vetting laboratory providers, ensuring validity and usability of laboratory data, evaluation and interpretation of data/information, development of conclusions and documentation of supporting evidence, written and oral communication of project outcomes.

Practice safe work practices

Participate in continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts.
The position may require travel and an occasional overnight stay.
Travel to offices, project sites and project meetings on an as-needed basis.

YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS
You are an environmental forensic chemist with a strong consulting background. You enjoy solving complex environmental problems using chemical fingerprinting, multivariate statistics, and rigorous interpretation of analytical data. You have significant experience supporting environmental investigations, litigation-driven projects, and source attribution work for contaminants such as PCBs, PFAS, PAHs, petroleum hydrocarbons, PCDD/Fs, and inorganic analytes. You bring a blend of environmental consulting experience, chemical expertise, and advanced data analytics skills. You are proficient in R, Python, JMP (SAS), QGIS and/or Matlab and use these tools to support statistical modeling, visualization, and forensic evaluations. Required Education
MSc or higher in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Engineering, Biogeochemistry, or a closely related field.
Required Experience
Minimum 10 years of environmental consulting experience involving environmental data interpretation or contaminant investigations.
Minimum 5 years conducting environmental forensic evaluations or chemometric analyses.
Experience supporting litigation or regulatory-driven environmental investigations.
Required Technical Skills
Experience with multivariate statistics, source allocation models, dimensionality reduction, or chemometric approaches.
Strong data analytics skills using R, Python, JMP (SAS), or Matlab.
Strong understanding of analytical chemistry principles and environmental data usability.
Familiarity with environmental data management systems such as EQuIS and Envirodata strongly desired.
Familiarity with EPA, ASTM, or equivalent analytical and forensic guidance documents.
Experience with environmental sampling data, laboratory deliverables, and QA/QC review.
Familiarity with automated data review tools strongly desired
Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong knowledge of Adobe® Acrobat.
