The Small Business Finance organization is seeking a highly motivated and analytically strong Senior Financial Analyst (T08) to support financial reporting, planning, and decision making for one of The Hartford’s largest and most dynamic segments. The analyst will partner closely with colleagues across Small Business, FP&A, Actuarial, and Enterprise Finance to help deliver clear, actionable insights, improve forecasting accuracy, and support ongoing process and analytics enhancements. Key Responsibilities
Reporting, KPIs & Insights
Produce accurate and timely reporting packages for Small Business (e.g., monthly business reviews, supporting exhibits, performance dashboards).
Develop clear, thoughtful commentary on results and trends in a way non-finance partners can understand.
Help drive improved reporting capabilities, including predictive and prescriptive analytics.
Financial Planning, Forecasting & Analysis
Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial cycles including Budget, Outlook, and long-term strategic plan.
Develop driver‑based forecasts and proactively identify emerging risks and opportunities.
Prepare variance analysis vs. Budget, Outlook, and Prior Year; synthesize insights for Finance and business leadership.
Business Partnership & Decision Support
Build strong relationships with Small Business partners, (underwriting, product, strategy, actuarial) providing clear financial guidance to influence decision‑making.
Deliver analytics and insights on growth, profitability, expenses, and operational performance.
Respond to ad‑hoc requests and support strategic initiatives across the segment.
Participate in special projects, including deep‑dive analyses, cost transformation, and investment cases.
Process Improvement & Automation
Identify opportunities to streamline recurring forecast, reporting, and analytical activities.
Help advance automation, including use of TM1, Python, Power BI, and emerging analytics tools, including the use of AI.
Contribute to modernization efforts aligned with enterprise data and reporting initiatives.
*This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office (Hartford, CT) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
Demonstrated strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a proven ability to derive insights from complex data.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and influence stakeholders at multiple levels.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
Preferred
MBA, CPA or relevant advanced credential.
Knowledge of TM1, Python, Power BI, or other enterprise reporting tools.
Experience supporting P&C insurance or financial services.
Familiarity with automation, data visualization, and emerging technologies.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
