Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, the Senior Financial Analyst - Corporate Accounting is part of the corporate accounting team that consolidates and analyzes the results of Extendicare's lines of business and prepares reports for internal and external purposes and will be responsible for providing accurate and timely accounting and reporting, while ensuring that the company’s policies are being followed.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, self-motivated and possess high attention to detail while still being able to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. This position requires a team player who will be able to support their team towards the overall successful achievement of team goals.
This position will be based at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario. Extendicare offers a hybrid working environment.
Key responsibilities include:
Execute period end closing activities as per the month-end close checklist
Review General and Administrative (G&A) expenses for accuracy and completeness
Prepare reclass entries to ensure proper expense allocation between cost centers
Perform detailed analysis and commentary against budget and prior year’s actuals
Generate and deliver the monthly management reports for internal stakeholders
Prepare financial result presentation materials to senior management
Prepare account reconciliations and resolve unsupported variance in a timely manner
Prepare analysis on movement in the balance sheet accounts
Communicate effectively and regularly with other departments to obtain information and/or to correct transactions
Leverage financial, business, and accounting knowledge to drive process improvement and create efficiencies
Manage internal and external auditor requests where required and as directed
Identify and, with manager support, work towards improvement initiatives in accounting and financial reporting
Complete other duties as assigned
What we’re looking for:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
3-5 years of related work experience and good understanding of financial statements
CPA Designation
Advanced Excel skills for working with large volumes of data
Task oriented to meet required timelines with high quality result
Strong communication skills with the ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
Strong analytical, comprehension and problem-solving skills
Effective problem solving, critical thinking and influential skills
Accounting experience with large-scale Enterprise Reporting systems, knowledge of Workday preferred
