Job Title: Senior Financial Accountant

Role Overview:

Avis Budget Group have an opportunity for a qualified accountant with strong technical accounting skills to join the Finance team as a Senior Financial Accountant within our high-performing EMEA team.

The Senior Financial Accountant will be a key member of the finance team, working with a strong team in the UK as well as across the various countries including mainland Europe, our global headquarters in Parsippany, New Jersey, and our shared service centre in Budapest, Hungary. This is a highly visible position where you will have an integral role in the reporting process of a multi-entity Business Unit, with the opportunity to communicate meaningful insights to the business.

The team’s mission is to serve as a strategic business partner, bringing timely and insightful decisions, leveraging financial systems and processes that increase transparency, improve efficiency, mitigate risks, shorten decision cycle times, and reinforce financial integrity and accountability.

Reporting to the Group Finance Manager, the individual will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of the financial close process, and delivering internal and external reporting deadlines, including ensuring compliance with the control environment defined by the SOx framework and US GAAP accounting rules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Taking full ownership of the monthly close process for multiple entities, including identifying and creating efficiencies in the close and reporting process.
  • Reconciling intercompany loan and interest balances on a monthly basis.
  • Maintaining intercompany matrix to ensure balances agree between entities and reconciling where necessary.
  • Reviewing and analysing results during the monthly close to provide commentary on variances against forecast.
  • Preparing monthly balance sheet flux commentary.
  • Preparing statutory financial statements for EMEA entities under FRS102.
  • Completing balance sheet reconciliations, working to specifications set out in Sarbanes Oxley (SOx) controls.
  • Taking responsibility for internal and external audit requirements, ensuring agreed timelines are met.
  • Maintaining financial controls and assisting in SOx compliance programme including documenting process flows.
  • Communicating expectations and providing guidance where needed to country teams and the shared service centre.
  • Ad hoc financial accounting tasks as assigned by the Group Finance Manager.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA or equivalent) - 2+ years post qualified preferred.
  • Experience with FRS 102 and an international GAAP (IFRS/US GAAP).
  • Strong experience with preparation of financial statements.
  • Experience with a control-based audit approach.
  • Advanced Excel skills including X-Lookups and Pivot Tables.
  • Excellent time management, planning, decision-making and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team to keep others informed where necessary, and complete work with minimal guidance and supervision.
