We recognise that as a business we can, and want to, make a difference. Whether that’s creating positive habits in our office environment, helping customers invest responsibly or by supporting our communities.

We help people live their best lives. We help them with the big stuff, for the moments that matter: Pensions, Savings, Investments. At Aegon, we strive in creating a diverse organisation that plays a meaningful role in driving greater equity, inclusion and belonging.

We are looking for a Senior Finance Systems Developer to join our Finance department on a permanent basis. This is a crucial role within our Finance Data Management team, where you’ll shape and develop high‑quality BI solutions that support critical financial reporting across the business. As our senior Cognos SME, you’ll lead the technical direction of the Cognos BI estate, driving innovation, performance and trusted insight. If you’re passionate about using data and modern BI to make a real difference, this role offers the opportunity to influence, transform and lead.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Own the end‑to‑end Cognos BI development lifecycle, ensuring delivery aligns with Finance and IT standards

  • Act as the Cognos subject matter expert, championing best practice, innovation and finance‑wide adoption

  • Design and deliver robust, high‑quality BI solutions that meet complex finance and regulatory requirements

  • Proactively improve performance and stability of existing BI solutions using audit data and analysis

  • Lead on Cognos installations, upgrades and technical change, working closely with vendors and IT teams

  • Ensure strong risk management and compliance with SOx, security, data protection and GDPR requirements

  • Coach and support colleagues, sharing expertise and raising capability across the team

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Exceptional hands‑on experience as a Cognos BI SME, with deep technical expertise across the Cognos suite

  • Proven experience translating complex business requirements into effective BI and data solutions

  • Strong data analysis and multidimensional modelling capability within a data warehouse environment

  • Significant experience operating in a senior BI developer role, ideally within financial services

  • Solid understanding of BI standards, governance and best practice, with experience embedding them in teams

  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders

  • Experience working with change, release and project management methodologies

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development, such as Cognos BI certification or equivalent experience

What’s in it for you?

  • We’re serious about your future and our enhanced pension scheme is now in place.  We ask you to contribute 3% of your salary to your pension and we’ll put in 9%.  If you decide to contribute more, we’ll match it up to a combined total of 20% of your salary (that’s 7% from you and 13% from us).

  • A discretionary bonus, depending on personal and company performance

  • 36 days leave per year (including bank holidays, pro-rated for part-time)

We also offer private medical cover, life assurance, critical illness cover, enhanced parental leave and a variety of lifestyle benefits to help our employees live their best lives, including retail discount vouchers, cycle2work scheme, subsidised restaurant and online GP appointments. To find out more about what to expect at Aegon, visit our careers site.
