Every day, millions of merchants rely on our tools to accept payments, manage finances, and grow their businesses. SumUp is a leading global fintech company with a strong presence in Bulgaria, supported by a Sofia-based team of 450+ professionals, serving over 4 million merchants in 36 markets across Europe, the US, Latin America, and Australia.

As a Senior Finance / ICFR Controller, you will take on a high-impact, dual-scope role, combining hands-on group controllership with ownership of internal financial control processes. You will shape and strengthen SumUp’s control environment while ensuring high-quality IFRS reporting across a complex, multi-entity organization.

What You’ll Do

  • Support control design and execution across key financial reporting areas, identifying gaps and driving remediation.

  • Monitor changes in accounting standards and business processes to ensure controls remain effective.

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, IT, Legal, and Procurement to embed controls in end-to-end processes.

  • Serve as a key finance partner for governance, risk, and compliance initiatives.

Finance & Controllership (50%)

  • Own balance sheet oversight and lead structured monthly balance sheet reviews.

  • Lead monthly consolidated management accounts and annual IFRS financial statements preparation.

  • Conduct group-level variance analysis and contribute to reporting initiatives.

  • Act as financial controller for assigned legal entities across the group.

  • Ensure high-quality data extraction, consolidation accuracy, and strong quality checks.

  • Support audits, financial reviews, and compliance activities.

  • Drive adoption and improvement of reporting and close tools.

Cross-Functional & Project Work

  • Partner with FP&A, Accounting, Controlling, ERP, Tax, and Corporate Development teams.

  • Lead IFRS and group reporting projects, including complex accounting issues.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on accounting quality, automation, and operational efficiency.

  • Build strong relationships with auditors, compliance teams, and regulators.

  • Present results clearly and meet deadlines consistently.

You’ll Be Great for This Role If

  • You have 10+ years of experience in accounting, controlling, or financial reporting within complex, multi-entity organizations.

  • You bring hands-on controlling experience with end-to-end responsibility for monthly and annual reporting cycles, consolidations, and IFRS financial statements.

  • You are confident running consolidations, reconciliations, and interpreting financial data independently.

  • You hold a Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

  • You are fluent in English with strong communication and presentation skills.

  • You are proactive, hands-on, and comfortable driving process improvements and change.

  • You thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments and enjoy tackling ambiguity.
