About the role

The Senior Environment Advisor is responsible for coordinating management of environmental aspects associated with the demolition and rehabilitation of or Liddell Power Station site and surrounding AGL Macquarie assets as they are retired. The role will support the Senior Environment Manager Transition and Construction in managing compliance with relevant project approvals and licenses.

This role will act as a key interface and specialist advisor relating to initiatives/challenges identified via the Project. You will work closely with the team of Environment Advisors to coordinate environmental management activities associated with the Hunter Transition Program.

Based at Bayswater and Liddell Power Stations, this is a 12-month Maximum Term opportunity

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support the development of site Rehabilitation, Remediation and Closure Plans in consultation with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide technical advice to site managers on rehabilitation, closure and remediation issues that may arise
  • Coordinate responsible and effective rehabilitation conditions in regulatory applications, consents and licences associated with the environment and rehabilitation obligations
  • Assist with engagement with external bodies on issues relating to rehabilitation and remediation of AGL Macquarie assets.
  • Provide professional and technical advice in relation to effective environmental management for the Project
  • Develop and assist with the management of contracts and all activities associated with the environmental rehabilitation and remediation works at AGL Macquarie.

About You

With a thorough understanding of Local, State and Federal planning approvals and pathways and environmental legislation across Australia, you will possess a high level of business acumen and an awareness of the impacting priorities within a large, complex organisation.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to engage with people at all levels will contribute to you developing quality relationships with regulatory authorities, Councils, consultants, and contractors.

Keeping abreast of relevant legislation, regulations and environmental management practice, you will have a strategic understanding of project management methodologies and be able to confidently provide advice and support on environmental aspects of projects and operations.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • Tertiary qualification in Environment or related discipline
  • Mid-senior level experience in similar or related businesses
  • Large scale industrial site experience and/or site rehabilitation/remediation would be an advantage
